Peter J. Duvali, 95, a Scranton resident, died Tuesday, December 22, 2009, in Holy Family Residence.  Born in Scranton, he was the son of the late Romolo and Rose Costa Duvali.  He was the husband of the late Sophie Lapinski who died in 1952.  He was a former member of Sacred Hearts Church, and until his retirement, he was employed for 46 years by Consolidated Moulded Products. He was a member of the International Association Of Machinists Union.  He was a former member of the South Side Bachelors Club.  For most of his adult life he lived in South Scranton and in his later years he was a daily companion of Butch Kettel at Brier's Market.  For the last  four and a half years he was a resident of Holy Family Residence which he affectionately referred to as " his estate".  There, he gave freely of himself and was known to bring a smile to all he met.  He loved his life at Holy Family Residence.  We, his family, would like to thank everyone at the Residence for the loving care he received over the years and for the compassion and tenderness they gave him in his final hours.  We are forever greatfull.  Lastly, to me, his son,   he was a constant example of how life can be lived.  He was a man who accepted what came his way without complaint.  He was my best friend.   I will miss him.  Surviving is a son, Dennis Duvali, Bloomington, IN., a daughter-in-law Elaine Duvali, Cerritos, CA., five grandchildren; Delta, Danielle, Catherine, James, Jr. and Christopher.  , seven greatgrandchildren, a sister Irene Corvi, Novato, CA., and nieces and nephews.  He was also preceeded in death by a son James Duvali and a brother John Duvali and four sisters; Margaret Natale, Ann Duvali, Rosalie Chesko and Elizabeth Fells.  The funeral will be Tuesday with Mass at 11 AM in Holy Family Residence Chapel.  Friends may call at the Maloney Lounge in the Residence Tuesday morning from 9 to 10:30 AM.  Interment Italian-American Cemetery, Minooka Section.  In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Little Sisiters Of The Poor, 2500 Adams Ave., Scranton, 18509.  Arrangements, August J. Catherine N. Kelly, 75, a resident of the Golden Living Center, died Friday evening, December 18, 2009 in Mercy Hospice.  She was the widow of Joseph F. Kelly who died in 1985.  Born in Scranton, she was the daughter of the late Francis and Hilda Simpson Moore.  She was a former member of Nativity Of Our Lord Church.  She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and greatgrandmother who will be deeply missed.  Surviving are two sons; John Kelly, MD., and David Kelly, Scranton, two daughters; Rose Kelly and Kathleen Kovach, both of Scranton, five grandchildren; Sarah, Kara,and Scott Kelly, David Kelly, Jr., and Joseph Kovach and three greatgrandchildren; Taylor Finkler, Jadyn Kelly and Riley Frable.  The funeral will be private and held at the convenience of the family.  There will be no calling hours.  Memorial contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Assn., 65 E. Celia M. Piccotti Laurynas, December 17, 2009. Celia M. Piccotti Laurynas, 72, a South Scranton resident, died Thursday evening in VNA Hospice at Community Medical Center. Born in Scranton, she was the daughter of the late James E. and Florence Arduino Piccotti.

She was a member of St. Francis Of Assisi Church, now Saint Paul Of The Cross Parish. She was a graduate of Scranton Technical High School, Class of 1956. Until her illness, she was employed as the manager of the bakery department of Oppenhiem's and The Globe Store. She was a loving mother and grandmother who will be deeply missed.

Surviving are two daughters; Marie Elena Neyman and husband Joseph, and Ceilann Stevens and husband David, all of Scranton, a brother James M. Piccotti and wife Joeann, Olyphant, three grandchildren Joseph Neyman, David Stevens and Tanya Lee Stevens, and nieces and nephews.

Marion Brier Lyons, a resident of Mountain View Care Center, died peacefully Tuesday evening, December 15, at the center.  Born May 27, 1954 in Scranton, she was the daughter of the late Joseph P. Brier, Sr. and Elizabeth Zingel Brier and was the twin sister of Joseph P. Brier, Jr.  She was a graduate of Bishop Klonowski High School and Marywood College.  She was a member of St. Mary Of The Assumption Church.  Prior to a car accident in 1984, in which she sustained severe head trauma, she was employed as a computer analyst for Harlyesville Insurance, Quakertown, Pa.  Marian spent the last 25 years of her life in a valiant effort to live with her debilitaing injuries.  Even in her compromised cognitive state, she was an inspiration to all who knew her. 

Surviving is her twin brother Joseph P. Brier, Jr. and wife Susan, Clarks Summit, two sisters; Elizabeth Thompson and husband Bill, Phoenix, AZ., and Mary Ellen Gizzi and husband Leo, Scranton, an Aunt, Mary Regan, four nieces; Amy Davis, Christine Mordon, Cheri Beltramo and Laura Brier and two nephews; Robert Mordon and Mark Brier, greatnieces and greatnephews and wonderful friends and caregivers whose attentions to Marian's disabilities made her life path brighter.  She was also preceeded in death by her Goddaughter and niece, Emily Brier as well as aunts and uncles. 

The family would like to give special thanks to the staff at Mountain View Care Center for their many years of loving attention to Marian and her special needs.

Angela L. Price, 69, a North Scranton resident, died Thursday, November 5, 2009, in Hospice Community Care, Dunmore.  Born in Alconbury, United Kingdom. she was tha daughter of the late Frederick and Ruby Brinkhurst Teat.  She was a homemaker who loved to cook and bake.  Her grandchildren and greatgrandchildren were the light of her life. 

The family gives special thanks to Dr. Glenn Buyo, Hospice Of The Sacred Heart, the staff of Hospice Community Care and especially thanks to her nurse Barbara Pullman of Hospice Of The Sacred Heart. 

Surviving are two daughters Debbie Price, with whom she resided, and Susan Zotynia and husband John, Scranton, two sons William Price, Dickson City and David Price and wife Abigail, Scranton, five grandchildren Nichole Hinkley, Jennifer Price, Stephen Heil, Danielle Allen and Robert Price, two stepgrandchildren Megan Strachan and Jeremy Scanlon, and two greatgrandchildren Emily and Lillian Hinkley.  Also surviving is a brother John, Wymond Ham, England, a niece Bonny Marlow, aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.  Also surviving is her former husband, William Price, Scranton and her former daughter-in-law Penny Price, Manchester, CT. She was also preceeded in death by a sister Shirley Ellison and a greatgrandson Noah Heil.

  Martin A. Dorio, 89, a South Scranton resident, died Monday, November 2, 2009in Mercy Hospice.  He was the husband of Irene Gulf Dorio. 

Born in Scranton, he was the son of the late Joseph and Grace Salamida Dorio. He was a member of Saint Paul Of The Cross Parish and attended Scranton Public Schools.  He was employed for over 40 years by Lackawanna Pants and retired from Brooks Manufacturing.  After retirement he was employed by the Scranton School District as a crossing guard at McNicols Plaza.  He enjoyed playing softball. 

Also surviving are two sons Joseph Dorio, with whom he resided and Martin C. Dorio and wife Mariann, Scranton, several grandchildren, two sisters Pauline Long and Theresa Haefele, both of Scranton, nieces and nephews.  He was also preceeded in death by five sisters; Josephine Dorio, Margaret Marsico, Marianne Ceresko, Mary Moran, Rose Sarcinelli and Christine Dudzinski.

Marion Rudnick, 90, a former South Scranton resident, died Sunday, November 1, 2009, in St. Mary's Villa.  She was the widow of Andrew C. Rudnick who died January 11, 1995.  Born in Scranton, she was the daughter of the late Henry and Mary Kraft Mehl.  She was a member of St. Mary Of The Assumption Church and it's Altar and Rosary Society. She was a graduate of St. Mary's High School and was employed as a secretary for Magistrates Of Lackawanna County for many years.  She enjoyed playing Pinochle and was an avid fan of the New York Yankees and Notre Dame Football.  She was a beloved mother, grandmother and greatgrandmother who will be deeply missed.   The family wishes to thank the staff of St. Mary's Villa  and Community Hospice Care and Dr. Smith, Dr. Turock and Dr. Clauss for all the care given to Marion.   

Surviving are two daughters Ann Marie Alferio and husband Matthew, Roaring Brook Twp., and Linda Klepadlo and husband David, Clarks Summit and two sons Robert Rudnick and wife Phyliss, Aldie, VA. and Paul Rudnick and wife Cabrini, Camp Hill, Pa.  Also surviving are grandchildren Robin Pinto and husband Scott, Rev. Elizabeth "Betty" Biglin, A Scranton resident, died Saturday, October 24, 2009, at the home of her daughter, Alice Hopkins, with whom she resided.  She was the widow of Eugene A. Biglin who died August 26, 2004 and the couple was married for 56 years. 

Born in Scranton, she was the daughter of the late Henry C. and Alice Wilkinson Walsh.  She was a graduate of St. John The Evangelist High School and was a life long member of Nativity Of Our Lord Church.  She was a kind, loving and gentle woman who had a passion for life and in the lives of her family.  As she struggled with health issues over the past few years, she was a source of hope and inspiration to all of us who knew and loved her.  She loved family gatherings and enjoyed her hobby of creating hand crafted quilts for all the special occasions in life. 

Surviving are two daughters Alice Hopkins, Moosic and Mary Jeanne Riviello and husband Frank, Old Forge, and three sons; Paul and wife Maureen, Eugene and wife Kathleen, and Henrey and wife Jayne, eight grandchildren; Erin Mitchell, Daniel Biglin, Mollie Cosgrove, Bridget Frounfelker, Dr. John Hopkins, Atty. Michael Hopkins, Patrick Hopkins and Bryan Riviello.  She also has seven greatgrandchildren and nieces and nephews.  Also survivng are her devoted sister and best friend, Jeanne C. Walsh, Scranton, and a brother Henry C. Walsh and wife Marie, Dunmore.

Victoria Blasi, October 1, 2009.  Victoria Blasi, 92, a lifelong resident of Scranton, died Thursday, October 1, 2009, in Mercy Hospice.  Born in Scranton, she was the daughter of the late Frank and Antonette Salamida Blasi. 

She was educated in Scranton Public Schools and was a retired secretary/bookkeeper for her father's business, Frank Blasi and Sons, Painting and Paperhanging Contractors.  Vicki (Aunt Vi), was the center and the 'go to" person for this branch of the Blasi family.  She had the shoulder always ready to lean on, her's was the ear that would always listen.  She had the arms always ready to hug.  She selflessly cared for her parents, sisters and brothers, nieces and nephews, friends and neighbors.  She gave all of herself for the service of others.  She was a self-tought seamstress and an excellent cook, especially of Italian foods.  This meek and humble soul will be greatly missed by all who knew her.  She was a member of St. Lucy's Church and was deeply devoted to her Catholic faith.  She was a faithful communicant, rarely, if ever, missing Sunday Mass.  When she was no longer able to leave home, she watched the daily Mass on television several times a day.  During her life she said thousands of rosaries, novenas and special prayers to the saints, all for the needs of others. 

Surviving is a sister Rose Sillner and husband Carl, Scranton, and a brother Frank Blasi and wife Rose, Peckville, several nieces and nephews and several greatnieces and greatnephews.  She was also preceeded in death by sisters Anne Buckley, Stella Buckley, Caroline DeRiggi and brothers Anthony (Tony) Blasi and Dominick (Nicky) Blasi. 

The family wishes to thank the physicians, nurses and staff of Mercy Hospital and especially Mercy Hospice for their loving care during Victoria's illness.  The funeral will be Monday at 8:45 AM from the August J. George Young, 83, a resident of Moosic, formerly of South Scranton, died Saturday, September 26, 2009, in Hospice Community Care, Dunmore.  He and his wife, the former Anna Olechna Young would have celebrated their 53rd Anniversary on October 20th.  Born in Scranton, he was the son of the late George and Margaret Reif Young.  He attended St. Mary Of The Assumption High School, was a disabled Navy Veteran of WWll who served in the Pacific Theatre as a Gunner's Mate on the USS LCI 372.  He was awarded numerous battle awards.  He was formerly employed by Capitol Records and retired from The University Of Scranton.  He was a member of Sacred Hearts Of Jesus And Mary Church, South Scranton, St. Mary's Parish Club, American Legion Post 207, St. Mary's House Bowling League and was a lifelong member of The Roaring Brook Sporting Club.  He was an avid Yankees fan and enjoyed rooting for his beloved team.  He enjoyed his frequent trips to    Atlantic City.  He loved playing Pinochle with his family.  He loved spending time with his grandkids.  He loved spending time at the family cabin at White Deer Lake, loved to garden, it was his passion.  George was always there, no questions, always there to lend a helping hand. 

Also surviving are three sons; Jeffery Young and wife Theresa, Scranton, Kevin Young and wife Marta, Moosic, John Young and wife Anita, Sturges and a daughter MaryAnn Garvey and husband Patrick, Moscow, eight Grandchildren: Christopher, Melissa, Jeffery, Jr.(Michael), Brittany, Samantha, Patrick, Carly and Holly.  Also surviving are three sisters; Shirley Hurst, Moosic, Alice DeMario, Old Forge, and Mary Margaret Mackrell, The Villages, FL. and nieces and nephews.  He was also preceeded in death by a brother John Young and two sisters Bernita Young and Jean Ann Shiner. 

The funeral will be Thursday at 8:45 AM from the August J. Haas Funeral Home, Inc., 202 Pittston Ave. with Mass at 9:30 in Sacred Hearts Of Jesus And Mary Church to be celebrated by Rev.   Eugene F. Devine, 63, a South Scranton resident, died Saturday, September 26, 2009, in Community Medical Center. 

He was preceeded in death by his wife, the former Kathi Matthews in 2005.  The couple was married for 38 years.  Born in Scranton, he was the son of the late Robert and Lucille Polt Devine.  He was of the Catholic faith.  He was an Army Veteran of the Vietnam War.  He was formerly employed by Affiliated Foods and was a retired employee of Our Lady Of Peace School.  He was a loving husband, father and grandfather who will be deeply missed.  Surviving is a daughter Lori Meyers, Scranton and a sister Roberta Breslin and husband Vincent, Moosic, two grandchildren Bryce and Lorene and nieces and nephews. 

He was also preceeded in death by a son Kevin Devine and a brother William Devine.

  Ann Joan Grant DelPrete, 80, a Scranton resident, passed away Friday evening, September 25, 2009, at Holy Family Residence where she resided for two years.  She was preceeded in death by her husband, Carl, on August 26, 2000.  Born June 5, 1929, in Scranton and raised in Clarks Summit, she was the daughter of the late William and Mary Healey Grant.  She was a graduate of Clarks Summit High School and was a member of St. Francis Of Assisi Parish.  She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother and aunt to so many.  She especially valued and treasured the many new friends she made at the Residence.  The family would like to thank the Little Sisters Of The Poor and their wonderful staff for the love and care shown to Ann. 

Surviving are two daughters; Catherine DelPrete, Scranton and Mary Thomas and husband Keith, Springbrook, a son William DelPrete and wife Michelle, Madison Township, a grandson William Thomas and  a sister Patricia Grant, Clarks Summit and several nieces and nephews.  She was also preceeded in death by two sisters Mary Monica Matkosky and Jean Marie Grant.

Houston, 91, a South Scranton resident, died Tuesday, September 15, 2009, in Hospice Community Care, Dunmore.  He was married to the late Mary Clare Davitt Houston who died in 1994.  Born in Scranton, he was the son of the late George and Agnes Williams Houston.  He was a graduate of Scranton Technical High School and was a retired employee of the General Sevices Administration based at the Pentagon.  He was an Army veteran of World War ll serving with the 243D Engineer Combat Battalion.  He was a member of Our Lady Of The Snows Church, Clarks Summit.  He was a kind and generous man and a loving uncle who will be deeply missed.  

Surviving is a brother James Houston, Arlington, VA. and nieces and nephews.  He was also preceeded in death by a sister Helen Houston and a brother Harold P. Houston, Sr.

Anna Scartelli, 95, a resident of the Longterm Care Facility at Sunbury Hospital for the past five years, died Thursday, September 10, 2009, in the facility.  She was the widow of Nicholas J. Scartelli who died in 1984.  The couple was married for 51 years.  Born in Scranton, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Margaret Zummo Noto.  She was a member of St. Francis Of Assisi Church, Scranton and was past president of it's Altar and Rosary Society in 1960.  She attended Scranton public schools and was a licensed beautician.  She was a compassionate and loving woman who reached out to all.  She loved dancing and cooking but most of all held her large family close to her heart.  She was the youngest of 13 siblings. 

Surviving are a son Joseph Scartelli and wife Karol, Selinsgrove, a daughter-in-law Janet Scartelli, Summerfield, FL., a sister Margaret Nazar, Allentown, Pa., and five grandchildren; Douglas, David, and Danielle Scartelli, Lisa Scartelli/Haff and Nicole Evans and eight greatgrandchildren: Joseph Majersky, Jennifer, Christina, Dominic, Ethan and Jack Scartelli and Emma and Lilly Rupert.  Also nieces and nephews survive.  She was also preceeded in death by a son Dominic Scartelli and seven brothers: Thomas, Casper, Joseph, Peter, Nicholas, Anthony and James Noto and four sisters; Concetta Sagona, Frances Wolfe, Katherine Raymond and Grace Reina.

Anna M. Seashock, 94, a resident of Dunmore, died Monday, September 7, 2009 in Hospice Community Care, Dunmore.  She was the widow of Stanley E. Seashock who died in 1972.  Born in Scranton, she was the daughter of the late William and Mary Motyl Murawski.  She was a member of St. Casimir's Church, Dunmore, St. Ann's Society and the Polish Women's Alliance. 

Surviving are a daughter Theresa Brier and husband Donald, with whom she resided, and a son Paul Seashock and wife Cynthia, Shickshinny, a sister Dorothy Arvay, Dunmore, and grandchildren including Lee Ann Supinski and husband Paul and Lisa Fish and husband Jodie, greatgrandchildren and nieces and nephews.  She was also preceeded in death by several brothers and sisters. 

A Memorial Mass will be celebrated on Friday at 9:30 AM in St. Casisir's Church, Prospect St., Dunmore by Rev. Karen Ambrosini Malachowski Catalano, Sept. 2, 2009.  Karen Ambrosini Malachowski Catalano, 51, a resident of Jessup, died Tuesday, Sept 2, 2009, in Moses Taylor Hospital after a curageous battle with cancer.  She was the wife of Michael Catalano, the couple was married for 11 years.  Born in Scranton, she was the daughter of the late Louis A. and Eleanor Bokon Ambrosini. 

She was a member of Sacred Heart Of Jesus Parish, Jessup, and was a graduate of Keystone College.  She formerly was employed by General Dynamics and was along with her husband the owner and operator of The After Five and La Trattoria.  She was a loving and caring wife and mother who always put her family first. 

The family wishes to thank Moses Taylor Hospital and the ICU, Dr. Adonizio and Northern Radiation and Oncology and Sacred Heart Hospice for all the loving care given to Karen. 

Also surviving are two daughters Jamie and Kristie Malachowski, and two sons Nicholas Catalano and Michael Catalano, Jr., all of Jessup, an aunt and an uncle, cousins and nieces and nephews.

Helen Marie Smurl, August 27, 2009.  Helen Marie Smurl, 70, a South Scranton resident, died Thursday, August 27, 2009, in Mercy Hospice.  She was the widow of James W. Smurl who died in 1981.  Born in Plains Twp., she was the daughter of the late Gerald E. and Helen M. Wysocki Jones.  She was a graduate of Coughlin High School, Wilkes-Barre and was a member of Nativity Of Our Lord Church.  She was a loving mother and grandmother who will be deeply missed. 

Surviving are four sons; James Smurl, Jerry Smurl and wife Carol and Shawn Smurl, all of Scranton and Joseph Smurl and wife Stacy, Greenfield Twp., and three daughters; Lori Ann Sibio, Taylor, Kimberly Smurl, Scranton and Kelli Esgro and husband Thomas, Carbondale, a sister Evelyn Vanchure and husband Harry, Wilkes-Barre, Grandchildren: Ashley and David Sibio, Lindsay and Matthew Smurl, Jennifer, Lisa, Shawna and Morgan Smurl and Sophie and Luke Smurl and Jacob Ragnacci, a niece Tracy Ann and a nephew Harry, both of Wilkes-Barre.

Matteo J. Tallo, 82, a Scranton resident, died Monday,  August 10, 2009, in Mercy Hospital.  His wife is the former Antonette Coppertino.  Born in Scranton he was the son of the late Joseph and Petrina Polizzi Tallo. 

He was a member of Nativity Of Our Lord Church and was a Navy veteran of World War ll.  He formerly was employed by Capital Records and was a volunteer for Telespond for five years. 

Also surviving are two sons Joseph Tallo and wife Barbara, Jessup, and Matthew Tallo, Laflin and two daughters Marie Brier and husband Gerard, West Palm Beach, FL. and Ann Tallo, Scranton, six grandchildren and seven greatgrandchildren and nieces and nephews.

Margaret "Peg" Mangan, R.N., a longtime resident of the Nativity section of Scranton, died Wednesday evening, August 5, 2009, at the home of her daughter, following an illness.  She was preceeded in death by her husband of 63 years, A. Joseph Mangan who died July 6, 2004. 

Born in Wilkes-Barre, April 5, 1916, she was the daughter of the late John and Theresa Morath Grill.  She was a graduate of St. Rose Academy, Carbondale, class of 1934 and was a graduate of St. Mary's Hospital School of Nursing in 1937.  During her career as a registered nurse, she worked at St. Mary's Hospital/Mercy Heights and also was the assistant directoress of Mountain Rest Nursing Home.  She was a member of Nativity Of Our Lord Church and its'  Societies.  She enjoyed travelling, reading, crocheting, playing bingo with her close friends and quilting with St. Mary's Quilting Club.  Her most treasured time was spent with her children, grandchildren and greatgrandchildren.  Peg's family would like to express its' sincere gratitude for the compassionate care given to Peg by Dr. Lori Williams, Donna Colburn, RN and the entire staff of Mercy Hospice. 

Surviving are two daughters; Maggie Casagrande, her primary caregiver, with whom she resided for the past two years and Martina Mangan, Laguna Woods, CA., five sons; Anthony and wife Carolyn, Stroudsburg, John and partner Sandy Locker, Carbondale, James and wife Darla, Fort Wayne, IN., Richard and wife Denise and Edward, all of Scranton.  Also surviving are 15 grandchildren Kevin and wife Meredith, Mohnton, Pa., Brian, Stroudsburg, Brendan and wife Kim, Lansdale, Kelly McLaughlin and husband Paul, Peckville, Nathan and wife Melissa, West Chester, Amy Borgacci and husband Gary, Archbald, Sean, Matthew, Scott and wife Jasmin, all of Fort Wayne, IN., Tony, Jimmy, Caitlin, Patrick, Kyle and Beth all of Scranton.   Also surviving are 13 greatgrandchildren; Riley, Timothy and Christopher, Mohnton,Pa., Connor, Jenna and Zack, Lansdale, Maxwell and Jack McLaughlin, Peckville, Luke and Julia, West Chester, Abigail and Ella Borgacci, Archbald and Jordan, Fort Wayne, IN.

Mabel C. Granito, August 3, 2009.  Mabel C. Granito, 95, a South Scranton resident, died Monday, August 3, 2009, in Community Medical Center.  She was preceeded in death by her husbend, Arthur J. Granito, Sr. on October 4, 2005.  The couple was married for 58 years.  Born in the Minooka section of Scranton, she was the daughter of the late Thomas and Bridgette Laffey Diskin.  She was a member of Nativity Of Our Lord Church and was a graduate of Minooka High School.  Mabel loved cooking, her rich Irish heritage, and spending time and holidays with her children and grandchildren.  She was an avid Mets fan. 

Surviving are her four children; Arthur Granito ll, Harrisburg, Thomas John (T.J.) Granito, Fairfax, VA., Lucia Granito, with whom she resided and Maureen Neu, Justus, a sister Romayne Perry, Moosic, six grandchildren A.J. and Jennifer Granito, Brian and Patrick Neu and Natalie and Christopher Granito and four step grandchildren Amanda, Joey, Samantha and Ashley and nieces and nephews.  She was also preceeded in death by three sisters; Margaret Diskin, Grace Perry and Clarissa Himmelsbach and two brothers Joseph and Harold Diskin.

Pierina Rossi, July 28, 2009.  Pierina Rossi, 87, a South Scranton resident, died Tuesday, July 28, 2009, in Scranton Health Care Center.  She was the widow of Ernest ( Frosty ) Rossi who died in 2003.  The couple was married for 59 years.  Born in Scranton, she was the daughter of the late Enrico and Emelia Fronduti Belardi.  She was a member of St. Franci Of Assisi Church and it's Altar and Rosary Society.  She was a graduate of Scranton Technical High School and was employed locally in the garment industry.  She was a member of ILGWU, the South Scranton After 50 Club and the Dante Literary Society. 

She was a loving mother and grandmother who loved to cook Sunday meals with her famous pasta for the entire family.  She had lots of friends and was well loved by all.  She will be sadly missed.  The family would like to thank the staff of the Scranton Health Care Center for the loving care given to Pierina.  Surviving are two daughters Audrey Pascoe and Marie Fisch and husband Ronald, all of Scranton and five grandchildren John Pascoe and wife Margaret, Mark and Dena Pascoe and Amy and Leanne Fisch, a greatgrandson Maxwell James Pascoe and nieces and nephews.  She was also preceeded in death by brothers Alfred and Mario Belardi and a sister Grace Mattei and a son-in-law Dennis Pascoe.

Reverend Joseph F. Fox, Pastor Emeritus of Immaculate Conception Parish, Bastress, and a resident of  Dunmore, died on Sunday, July 26, 2009.

Father Fox, son of the late Fred and Anna Rosen Fox (Fuchs), was born in Scranton on January 31, 1916.  He is a graduate of Saint Paul’s elementary and high schools, Scranton, where he was valedictorian of his class.   Father attended Saint Thomas College, (now the University of Scranton) and Saint Mary’s Seminary in Baltimore, Maryland.  He also pursued theological studies at the Canisianum in Innsbruck, Austria, and Immaculate Conception Seminary, Darlington, N.J.  Father Fox was ordained on June 5, 1943, in Saint Peter’s Cathedral, Scranton, by the Most Reverend William J. Hafey, D.D., late Bishop of Scranton.

Father’s first assignment was as assistant pastor of Saint John the Baptist Church, Scranton.  He was then named pastor of Immaculate Conception Parish in Bastress where he remained for thirty years until his retirement and appointment as Pastor Emeritus on June 20, 1991.

Father Fox was named a Diocesan Notary and had served as a Canonical Consultant.

He is survived by a cousin  and caregiver Elizabeth  Kull, Scranton and  husband, Henry, Scranton, and several other cousins.      He was preceded in death by a sister, Catherine J. Fox. 

Viewing will take place  on Wednesday, July 29, 2009, from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at St. Mary Of The Assumption Church, River St. Scranton. A Transferral Mass will be celebrated at Saint Mary Of The Assumption Church, Scranton, at 7:00 p.m., with the Reverend Samuel  J. Ferretti, Dean, presiding.

A Pontifical Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by the Most Reverend John M. Dougherty, D.D., Auxiliary Bishop of Scranton, on Thursday, July 30, 2009, at 11:00 a.m. in Saint Mary Of The Assumption Church, Scranton.  Viewing will also take place Thursday morning, prior to the 11:00 a.m. Funeral Mass in church.  Interment will be in Saint Catherine’s Cemetery, Moscow.

She was also preceeded in death by an infant brother.

Loretta Weller, Archbald, formerly of Dunmore, died Sunday, July 12, 2009,  at Ascera Care Hospice in Mid Valley Hospital.  Born in South Scranton, daughter of the late Herman and Elizabeth Cartes Weller, she resided in Scranton most of her life, moving to Dumnore several years ago and more recently to Archbald.  She was a member of St. Mary Of The Assumption Church, Scranton, and of it's Altar And Rosary Society.  She received her early education at St. Mary's School and graduated from St. Mary's Commercial Course.  Before retirement she was employed by the State Workman's Insurance.  Prior to that she was employed by the former Globe Store as an Assistant Buyer. 

Surviving are a sister-in-law Ann Weller, Roaring Brook Twp. and nieces and nephews including her caregivers, Agnes Golden and Elizabeth Kennedy.  She was preceeded in death by four brothers; Herman, Fred,Ferd and Henry and four sisters; Marie Nebesky, Elizabeth Lentes, Augusta Byron, Clara Benedict and two infant siblings.  The funeral will be Thursday with Mass at 9:30 AM in St. Mary Of The Assumption Church to be celebrated by Rev. Melissa Rohlic Kolata, 28, a Hill Section resident, died Saturday, July 11, 2009, in Moses Taylor Hospital.  She and her husband Jake Kolata would have celebrated their 1st Anniversary August 23, 2009. 

Born in Scranton and raised in Dunmore, she was the daughter of David Rohlic, Lehighton, and Jacqueline Wirth Ardle and husband Colin, Meyersville, MD.  She was a member of Immaculate Conception Church, was a graduate of Dunmore High School and was formerly employed as a manager of Dunkin Doughnuts in Maryland.  She resided in Fredericksburg, MD. before returning to Scranton. She was persuing a degree at the New York Institute Of Photography.  She was greatly loved by her husband and family and will be deeply missed.  She was happily anticipating the birth of her daughter and her future role as a mother until her untimely death.  The family wishes to thank the staff of Moses Taylor ICU and Neonatal Unit for their compassionate care of Melissa. 

Also surviving is a newborn daughter Mia Marie Kolata, at home,  a brother David Rohlic and companion Johnessa Henderson, Scranton, aunts and uncles including Deborah Bodner and Lynn Gerrity and husband Daniel, all of Scranton, a niece Jasmine Rohlic and a nephew Christopher Rohlic and three cousins.    Also surviving are Paternal grandmother Barbara Altenhein Rohlic, Dunmore, Mother-in-law Linda Crowningshield Biberman and husband Gerald, Father-in-law Robert Kolata , Grandmothers-in-law  Marion Crowningshield and Mary Kolata all of Scranton.  She was preceeded in death by maternal grandparents John and Alice Mutchler Wirth and paternal grandfather Joseph Rohlic and grandfather-in-law William Kolata.

Marjorie P. Greenwald, 90, a South Scranton resident, died Monday evening ,June 29, 2009, in Mercy Hospital.  She was preceeded in death by her husband Albert Greenwald in 1991 and the couple was married for 49 years.  Born in Scranton, she was the daughter of the late John and Josephine Constantini Peters ( Petruzelli). 

 She attended Scranton Public Schools and was an employee of the Scranton School District at McNickols Plaza School until her retirement in 2000.  She was a Democratic Committeewoman and was a Carter delegate in New York City in 1980.  She was a member of St. Mary Of The Assumption Church.  She loved her children and grandchildren, loved to travel and have a good time.  She was a hard worker who greatly enjoyed her career. She will be missed by her family and many friends. 

Surviving are two daughters; Josine Petrini and husband Lenny, Clarks Summit and Linda Greenwald, at home, two grandsons Eric and Evan Petrini, a brother John Peters, Miami, FL., and a sister Lucy Maroon, Scranton, and nieces and nephews.  She was also preceeded in death by a brother Michael Peters and three sisters; Connie Furiosi, Josephine ( Joey ) Peters and Viola Leto.

Mary D. Padeletti, 81, a resident of Scranton, died Thursday evening in Golden Living Center, Scranton.  She was the wife of Italo E. Padeletti and the couple was married for 28 years.  Born in Scranton, she was the daughter of the late Albert G. and Mary Stone Wright.

She was a member of St. Joseph's Lithuanian Parish.  She was a retired employee of Scranton Lace Co. where she worked for over 40 years.  She also was employed by the Bureau Of Recreation for six years and tought tap dancing at Weston Field and Weston Park.  She formerly operated a dance studio.  She was also a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of VFW Post 7069, Clarks Summit.  Also surviving is a sister-in-law Ann Schaffer and husband Robert, Scranton, a niece Sharon Bolack, Scranton and three nephews Richard and Jason Bolack and Sean Bolack and wife Shannon, and twin greatnieces Shyane and Madison Bolack.

James Stahl, 59, a South Scranton resident, died Sunday evening in Community Medical Center.  His wife is the former Elaine Murphy and the couple was married for 35 years.  Born in Scranton, he was the son of the late Gerard and Ruth Lonsdorf Stahl.  He was a graduate of South Scranton Central Catholic High School, class of 1967 and the University Of Scranton, class of 1971. He was a retired teacher employed for 33 years by St. Michael's School, Tunkhannock.  He was a member of Nativity Of Our Lord Church and the US Army Reserves.  He was a co-owner of Stalls By Stahl Painting Co.

Also surviving is a son, Dr. Mark Stahl and wife Lauren, San Diego, CA.,  two daughters Emily Shedlauskas and husband Mark, Clarks Summit, Jennifer McGaurrigle and husband Sean, Harleysville, Pa. , a granddaughter Ava Shedlauskas and a sister Dr. Mary Stahl Levick and husband Donald, Allentown, and four brothers; Thomas Stahl, Peckville, Dr. Michael Stahl and wife Barbara, Knoxville, TN., William Stahl and wife Pamela, Factoryville and Gregory  Stahl and wife Rochelle, Moscow and aunts, uncles, cousins and nieces and nephews. Flora A. Kadish, 77, of Clarks Summit, formerly of St. Petersburg, FL., died Friday at Allied Skilled Nursing Facility, Scranton, surrounded by her loving family.  She was preceeded in death by her husband, Francis Kadish, on January 2, 2009.  The couple would have been married 40 years on June 14, 2009.

  Born in Huntington, W. VA., she was a daughter of the late Ernest and Era Sullivan Pyles.  She was a past Matron for ADAH Chapter 219 Of The Eastern Star and was a member of the Rtzy Reds, Red Hat Society of St. Petersburg., FL.  She was a retired employee of the US Federal Government and was of the Protestant faith.  She will be sadly missed but will remain in the hearts of all the individuals whose lives she touched. 

Surviving are five daughters; Ellen Frable and husband Ed, Clarks Summit, Teresa Ary and husband Henry, South River, NJ., Kimberly Housman and husband Michael, Virginia Beach, VA., Jacqueline Talbot, Oceanport, NJ., and Candice Fliescher and husband Gary, Harrisburg,PA., and two sons; Kenneth Kadish and wife Melinda, Florida, and Keith Kadish and wife Sue, Harrisburg, PA..  Also surviving are 20 grandchildren and 11 greatgrandchildren and nieces and nephews.  She was also preceeded in death by two brothers; Eldridge Earles and Otis Sullivan and one sister Ermal Llewellyn.

Ethel ( Adalgisa ) Carbone, May 27, 2009.  Ethel ( Adalgisa ) Carbone, 91, a South Scranton resident, died Wednesday at Community Medical Center.  Born in Jessup, she was the daughter of the late Cesare and Carmela Meletti Cardoni.  The family moved to Superior, Wyoming for ten years when she was age two.  They returned to Scranton and she attended Scranton Public schools and the Arthur Murray School Of Dance.  She was a ballroom exhibitionist with her partner, Joe DiMaggio.

She entered the business world of women's line of clothing and was written up in "Who's Who of American Professional Women".  She was president of Sonny Styles and Major Styles Reisner Dress until her retirement after 30 years in business.  She was a member of St. Francis Of Assisi Church.  She will be missed by her family and friends because of her very generous nature.  She cared for everyone and greatly believed in her Catholic Faith. 

Surviving is a son Richard Mark Roani and wife Mary Ann, Clarks Summit, two grandsons; Richard Michael Roani and wife Lori and Bartholomew Roani, both of Scranton; three greatgrandchildren Richard, Nina and Mario Roani, Scranton, a sister Caroline Ranocchio, Scranton and nieces and nephews.  She was also preceeded in death by four sisters Emma Barbini, Anna Sellano, Olga Bucari and Josephine Minelli and three brothers infant Joseph Cardoni, Joseph Cardoni and Stanley Ceccarelli and a greatgrandson Salvatore Mark Roani.

Josephine Vinciarelli McDonnell, 89, a resident of Holy Family Residence, formerly a lifelong resident of South Scranton, died Wednesday at Mercy Hospital.  She was the widow of Leo J. McDonnell who died in 1986.  The couple was married for 20 years.  Born in Scranton, she was the daughter of the late David and Anna Schenone Vinciarelli,  She was a member of St. Francis Of Assisi Church and the Altar and Rosary Society.  She was a 1939 graduate of Central High School, and prior to her retirement she was employed by Dairyman's League Association.  She was a member of The Friendly Seniors. 

Surviving are two nieces; her caregiver Eleanor Petrucci, Scranton and Roseann Sgobba Thomas and husband Denny, Palm Springs, FL., greatniece Ann Titler and husband Jeff, Harrisburg, greatnephews Peter Petrucci and wife Cynthia, Scranton, Louis Petruuci and wife Patricia, Fallston, MD., David Knight, Winter Haven, FL., and nine greatgreatnieces and four greatgreatnephews. 

She was also preceeded in death by four sisters Mary Bisciao, Frances LaCanna, Rose Vinciarelle and Evelyn Sgobba who died Saturday.  The funeral will be Saturday at 9:30 AM from the August J. Evelyn Vinciarelli Sgobba, 91, a former Scranton resident, of Palm Springs, FL., died Saturday evening in Hospice of Palm Beach County, West Palm Beach, FL.  She was the widow of William V. Sgobba who died January 31, 1990.  Born in Scranton, she was the daughter of the late David and Anna Schenone Vinciarelli.  She was educated in Scranton public schools and was formerly employed by Cimini's Restaurant and Bar in South Scranton.  She and her late husband owned and operated Sgobba's Bar and Grill before moving to Florida in 1960.  In Florida they owned and operated Bill's Pet Supplies and Coin Shop for 18 years until their retirement.  She was a loving wife, mother, sister, grandmother and greatgrandmother who possessed a great sense of humor. 

Surviving is a daughter Roseann Thomas and husband Denny, Palm Springs, FL. a grandson David Knight, Winter Haven, FL. a greatgranddaughter Eve Rose, a niece, Eleanor Petrucci, Scranton and greatnieces and greatnephews and greatgreatnieces and greatgreatnephews.  She was also preceeded in death by four sisters Mary Bisciaio, Frances LaCanna, Rose Vinciarelli and Josephine McDonnell who died Wednesday.

Mary Alice Judge, 78, a resident of Moosic, died Sunday, May 17, 2009, in Mountainview Care Center. She was the wife of the late Martin Judge who died May 4, 2005. Born in Scranton, she was the daughter of the late Alfred and Gertrude Kelly Campbell. She was a member of the Church Of St. Joseph, was a graduate of Scranton Technical High School and was formerly employed as an accountant for Blue Ridge Plumbing and was a retired employee of Oppenhiem's where she was the Bridal Consultant. She was a member of St. Mary Of The Assumption Altar and Rosary Society, Mercy Hospital Auxilliary, and was travel coordinator for South Scranton After 50 Club. The family wishes to thank the staff of Mountainview Care Center for their care of Mary Alice. She was a loving  and devoted wife ,mother and sister who will be deeply missed.   

Surviving is a daughter Nancy Rosar, Binghamton, NY., a sister Ann Simerson and husband William, Scranton, two nephews Michael and James Lahey.  She was also preceeded in death by a sister Rose Lahey Judge.  The funeral will be Thursday at 10 AM from the August J. Larry J. Gallagher, 84, a Dunmore resident, died Thursday morning, May 14, 2009, at home.  He and his wife, the former Mary Collins, would have been married for 59 years this October.  Born in Scranton, he was the son of the late Larry A. and Marie Jordan Gallagher.  He was a member of St. Clare's Church, was active in Boy Scout Troop 43 and was on the Eagle Advancement Committee.  He was a Navy veteran of World War ll.  He formerly was a firefighter for the Scranton Fire Department for 18 years and then retired from the AAA Motor Club where he was the Director Of Travel.  He formerly was a long time member of Nativity Of Our Lord Church and was an active member of the former Holy Name Society.  He was a member of Moosic Lakes Club. 

Also surviving are two daughters; Joan Gavigan and husband Jim, Clarks Summit and Atty Eileen Wallace and husband Robert, Alexandria VA. and a son Lawrence F. Gallagher DMD and wife Jennifer, Scranton and eight grandchildren; Brendan, Patrick and Colleen Gavigan and Matthew and Ashlyn Wallace and L. J., Elizabeth and Jack Gallagher.   Also surviving are nieces and nephews. He was also preceeded in death by an infant son.  The funeral will be Tuesday at 9 :30  AM from the August J. William J. Hines. 80, a South Scranton resident, died Sunday, May 3, 2009, in Mercy Hospital.  He and his wife, the former Dolores Slaboda, would have been married 55 years this October.  Born in Scranton, he was the son of the late Joseph P. and Bridget O'Hora Hines.  He was a lifelong member of Nativity Of Our Lord parish and was active with the Annual Festival for many years.  He was active in many political campaigns for many years.  He was an army veteran of the Korean War where he served as a combat photographer.  He formerly was employed by Photoreflex in the Globe Store.  He was a retired Scranton firefighter serving for 25 years with Engine 2.  He was a member of Scranton Firefighters Retirees, the Scranton Firefighter's Union, Korean War Veterans, Kingston Post, and was a past president of Bishop Klonowski parents club and formerly also belonged to the Scranton Prep Parent's Club.  He frequently travelled to Atlantic City where he enjoyed gambling and playing the lottery.  He also enjoyed Broadway shows. 

The family would like to thank Dr. Michael J. Fox, Dr. Lisa Thomas, Dr. Elaine O'Donnell, Dr. John Lundin, Mercy Home Health Care Nurses and Moses Taylor Home Health Nurses and the staff and nurses at Mountainview Care Center for all the care rendered to Bill. 

Also surviving are two sons William P. Hines, caregiver, of Scranton and Joseph K. Hines, Hercules, Ca., two sisters Theresa Wolff and Loretta Culkin both of Scranton, and nieces and nephews.  He was also preceeded in death by two sisters Mary Ganz and Ann McDonough and two brothers infant Joseph and John Hines.  A  Memorial Mass will be celebrated Friday at 9:30 in Nativity Of Our Lord Church by Rev. Patrick M. D'Angelo, 92, a South Scranton resident, died early Wednesday morning in Hospice Community Care, Dunmore.  His wife, the former Josephine Justave, died in 1986.  Born June 6, 1916, in Dunellen, NJ., he was the son of the late Leopoldo and Teresa LaManna D'Angelo.  He was a member of St. Francis Of Assisi Church and was active in many parish functions in earlier years along with Clifton Beach Clambakes.  He was employed for 50 years by Consolidated Molded Products until his retirement.  He was also involved in many capacities at ARC and served as president.  He was a World War ll veteran serving in the Army Air Corps.  He was a member of VFW Rabiega-Gorgol Post and the American Legion Poch Post 948.  He was also a member of the International Association Of Machinists.  He was a loving husband, son, father, brother and uncle.  He was a kind, gentle soul and was always ready to lend a hand to anyone in need.  He will truly be missed and forever loved. 

The family would like to extend their heartfelt graditude to the nurses of Traditional Home Health and Hospice and the staff of Hospice Community Care, especially Jason (Waterboy), Kate and Michelle.  Your compassion and comfort will never be forgotten.  Surviving are three brothers Nicholas, Trenton, NJ., Leo, Jr. and wife Rita and Louis and wife Barbara, Scranton, four sisters Angeline Vergnetti and Frances Lefchak, with whom he resided and was his loving caretaker, both of Scranton and Mary Chiavarone, Trenton, NJ., and Betty Noll, Moscow, and nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews and many who gave loving care.  He was also preceeded in death by two sons Leo and John and a brother Joseph.

Gerald J. (Jerry) Regni, April 23, 2009. Gerald J. (Jerry) Regni of Clarks Green, formerly of Scranton, died Thursday evening in Mercy Hospice.  His wife of 52 years is June Benci Regni.  Born in Old Forge, son of the late Marino and Josephine Poli Regni, he was graduated from Old Forge High School.  He was a member of St. Gregory's Church, Clarks Green.  He served in the Korean War and was a member of Special Service.  He was the owner of the Gerald Regni Music Studio, South Scranton.  He was an accomplished musician and his greatest passion was his music.  He began his musical career at an early age and later formed The Paramounts and then started the Gerald Regni Trio. He also was known as a soloist.  He took great pride in his students.  His other joys were hunting, playing pool and golf.  He was a member of the Musician's Union, VFW Post 4954, Old Forge, and the American Legion. 

Also surviving are a daughter Denise Regni and companion Vince Cherundolo, Old Forge and a son Gerald J. Regni, Jr.DMD and wife Nancy, Philadelphia, three grandchildren; Gabriella, Giancarlo and Maxamillian, all of Philadelphia, a sister Irene D'Angelo, and husband Anthony, West Pittston and four nieces.  Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday at 10 AM in St. Gregory's Church by Rev. Andrew Gallia, his cousin.  The family will receive friends and family in the church before the Mass from 8:30 AM to 9:30 AM. 

Interment private at the convenience of the family in Italian-American Cemetery, Scranton.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Mercy Hospice 746 Jefferson Ave. 18501 or to the donor's favorite charity.

Lahey, 94, a former Scranton resident died Friday in Sunnyside Care Center, Baldwinsville, NY.  She was the widow of John ( Sailor ) Lahey who died in 1960.  Born in Scranton, she was the daughter of the late Charles and Carrie Schumacher Schneider.  She was a former member of St. Mary Of The Assumption Church, Scranton and presently is a member of St. Mary Of The Assumption Church, Baldwinsville, NY. 

She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and greatgrandmother whose family was her life.  Surviving are two daughters Mary Margaret Gaughan and husband  Joseph with whom she resided and Marie Burke and husband Robert, Indianapolis, IA., three brothers Carl Schneider, Wilkes-Barre, George Schneider, Scranton and Joseph Schneider, Hazelton, two sisters Margaret Rorrick, Levittown and Ruth Schmieg Sayre, seven grandchildren and 13 greatgrandchildren and nieces and nephews.

Joseph T. Cryan, 60, a South Scranton resident, died Monday morning in the Golden Living Center, Scranton.  Born in Glen Ridge, NJ., he was the son of the late John and Winifred Walsh Cryan.  He was a member of Nativity Of Our Lord Church, the National American Legion, VFW Post 7251 and the Nativity Social Club.  He served in the Marine Corps during the Vietnam Era.  He was fond of his brother,s rotwieler, Max, who was also loved by staff and residents of the Golden Living center.  Max's visits will be missed by all.  The family wishes to thank the staff of the faciity for their loving care of Joe.

Alice B. Moran, April 18, 2009. Alice B. Moran, 95, formerly of the Nativity section of Scranton, died on Saturday at the Devon House Assisted Living Center in Allentown. Her husband, James A. Moran, died November 2, 1986. Born in Scranton, she was the daughter of the late Alice Marie Hobbs Carey and Michael Carey. She was a 1932 graduate of Technical High School. Prior to her retirement she was employed as a secretary for John Foley Insurance and Real Estate. She was a member of Nativity Of Our Lord Church and a member of the Women's Societies of Nativity Parish. She was also a former member of the South Catholic and Scranton Prep Mothers' Clubs.

Surviving are a daughter Alice Marie Lynott and husband Vincent, Allentown with whom she resided most recently, and two sons; Atty. James Moran, Philadelphia and Gerard and wife Mariann, Scranton and three grandchildren Kerry Lynott, Tim Lynott and James Gerard Moran and several nieces and nephews. John Arnold Kelbish, Jr., 76, a Scranton resident, died April 15, 2009 after a brief stay in Hospice Community Care, Dunmore.  Born in Brooklyn, NY., June 2, 1932, he was the eldest son of the late  John Arnold and Rita Flavin Kelbish.  After graduating from High School, Jack served in the United States Navy.  For a decade or more, he was a salesman in Scranton for the Reading based Company, Fortna Brothers.  Jack also lived in the southern United States and eventually settled in Virginia Beach, VA., after serving in the Merchant Marines and travelling through Asia and the Indian Ocean.  Throughout his life, Jack loved coffee of any temperature, enjoyed working on his current car or truck, building with his hands, and even took up sewing for a period of time.  He loved animals, particularly dogs, cars and when he was in a position to help, he liked working with people eager to gain sobriety, get a job or learn to read.  Surviving are two daughters; Susan K. Shumaker and husband Robert. J., Scranton and Virginia L. Kelbish and husband Steve D. Reinbrecht, Reading , five grandchildren; Katelyn Jane and Emily Anne Shumaker and Helen Maeb, Maura Alice and Sarah Eugenia Reinbrecht, a brother Edward, New Port Ritchie, FL. and his former wife Josephine, Beach Lake, Pa. Santo( Sandy) J. Palmasani, 95, a  lifelong South Scranton resident, died  Wednesday evening in Abington Manor. from an illness.  Born in Scranton, he was the son of the late Frank and Grace Doria Palmasani. 

He attended Scranton Schools and was a self-employed painter and was assistant to the late Bob Oister with whom he designed commercial store front displays.  He was an avid sports fan and immensely enjoyed his mucical collection.  An Army veteran of World War ll, he served four years during the entire war in the Pacific Theatre from 1941 to 1945.  He was stationed in Oahu, Hawaii during the Pearl Harbor attack.  He was awarded the Asiatic-Pacific Service Ribbon with three bronze stars and the Presidential Unit Citation Medal and the American Defense Medal.  He was a very kind and humble person and showed much kindness and respect to all his family, cousins and friends.  He was a member of St. Francis Of Assisi Church.

  The family would like to thank the staff at CMC and Abington Manor for their tender care.  Surviving is a brother, Michael Palmasani, Endicott, NY. and two sisters Lena Bartocci, Spring Hill, FL. and Josephine Cascio, Scranton and several nieces and a nephew.  He was also preceeded in death by three brothers; Rev. Martha Lucille Ratchford, a South Scranton resident, died Sunday evening, March 29, 2009, in Moses Taylor Hospital.  She was the widow of John Ratchford who died in 1994.  Born in the Minooka section of Scranton, she was the daughter of the late Richard and Bridget Skahill McAndrew.  She was a member of Nativity Of Our Lord Church.  She was a loving mother, grandmother and greatgrandmother who loved spending time with her family. 

Surviving are two daughters Susan Cawley, who resided with her mother, and Jane Cuozzo, Factoryville and grandchildren including John Brudzinski and greatgrandchildren including Lauryn, Jordan and Logan Brudzinski, and nieces and nephews and greatnieces and greatnephews.  She was also preceeded in death by three brothers Leo, Harold and Richard McAndrew and three sisters Mary Kieffer, Violet Manning and Jean Quinn and also by a daughter Joan Ratchford.

Marie C. VanMaanen, a Scranton resident, died Monday, March 23, 2009, in Hospice Community Care, Dunmore.  Born January 16, 1926, in Scranton, she was a daughter of the late Professor Francis and Caroline Herbster VanMaanen. 

She was a graduate of St. Mary's High School in 1944.  She was employed by Acme Fast Freight in the Scranton and New York City offices until 1976.  She then was employed by Air Techniques in Long Island until 1991.  She later worked at Bonton after returning to Scranton.  Marie was well known for her singing ability and appeared in many shows and choral concerts and performed solos many times.  Affectionately known as ' Aunt Re", she was everyone's favorite aunt and was a large part of the lives of her family and friends.  She was generous with her time and talent for the benefit of many and she was a volunteer adult leader with the Girl Scouts. 

Surviving is a sister Romayne Egan, Scranton and a brother Paul and wife MaryLinda, Bear Creek Twp., nieces; Ann Marie Kochis, Madeline Colianni and Marie VanMaanen and nephews: Robert and James Egan and David VanMaanen and greatnieces and greatnephews.  She was also preceeded in death by a brother-in-law Robert C. Egan and a nephew Jeff Colianni. 

The family wishes to thank Dr. James McKenna, the staff of Mountain Rest Nursing Home and Hospice Community Care for their great care of Marie.  The funeral will be Thursday at 10 AM from the August J. Geiger who died February 28, 1972.  Born May 4, 1918, in Scranton, she was the daughter of the late Joseph W. and Margaret Conway Dickert.  She was a member of St. Mary Of The Assumption Church.  She was a graduate of Scranton Technical High School and formerly was employed by Greyhound Bus Lines, Russell's Ice Cream Parlor and McDonald's.   She loved spending time with her family and fulfilled her lifelong dream to visit Ireland four years ago. 

Surviving are three daughters; Kathy Geiger, with whom she resided and Lolita Albert and husband Paul and Judy Verrastro and husband Canio, all of Scranton and eight grandchildren; Lolita Salmon and husband Joseph, Sandra Yacovoni and husband Richard,Paul, Michael and Daniel Albert and Carrie Clark and husband Glenn, Christine Verrastro and Judy Thompson and husband Cart, 11 greatgrandchildren and cousins, nieces and nephews.  She was also preceeded in death by a brother Joseph C. Dickert.

Charolotte M. McIntyre, March 20, 2009. Charlotte M. McIntyre, 98, a South Scranton resident, died Friday morning, March 20, 2009, in Hospice Community Care, Dunmore.  Born in Scranton, she was the daughter of the late Thomas and Sarah Nealon McIntyre.  She was a member of Nativity Of Our Lord Church and was a retired employee of Bell Telephone Co. where she was employed for 49 years. 

She was a member of Bell Pioneers Of America and the fomer Nativity Golden Age.  Her family will miss her smile that could light up a room and her many kind ways.  She will be greatly missed.  Surviving are five nephews; Robert, Dennis and John McIntyre, all of Scranton, Frank Quinn, Scotia, NY., and Gerald Quinn, Chambersburg, Pa. and a niece Joyce O'Hara, Clarks Summit and 72 greatnieces and greatnephews and greatgreatnieces and greatgreatnephews.  She was also preceeded in death by two sisters Anne Quinn Rock and Margaret McIntyre and three brothers Joseph, Thomas and Harold McIntyre and four nephews Donald, Thomas, Joseph and Jerry McIntyre.

Irene Layo, 88, a South Scranton resident, died Thursday, March 12, 2009, in Mountainview Care center.  She was the widow of Gus Layo, who died in 1987.  Born in Dickson City, she was the daughter of the late John and Helen Bernosky Kasper.  She was a member of St. Mary Of The Assumption Church.  Irene had a deep devotion to St. Ann and faithfully attended the Annual Novena To St. Ann for 70 years.  She was an incredible mother whose life was devoted to her family and friends. 

Surviving are two daughters Marlene Miller-Leonard, Moosic and Linda Pisano and husband John, Plains, four grandchildren David Miller and wife Denise, and Angelo, John and Joseph Pisano, two sisters Berniece Paulish and husband William, Blakely and Elaine Chulis and husband George, Randalstown, MD. and nieces and nephews.  Also surviving is her former son-in-law David Miller, Duryea and a best friend Jane Clifford, Moscow.  She was also preceeded in death by two brothers Joseph and Stanley Kasper and three sisters Florence Wanneman, Helen Decker and Henrietta Lukowski.

Dorothy Wagner Varzaly, 85, of South Scranton, died Sunday evening at Hospice Community Care, Dunmore.  She was preceeded in death by her husband George Varzaly who died November 18, 1973.  Born August 12, 1923, in Scranton she was the daughter of the late Harry and Catherine Grill Wagner.  She resided in South Scranton her entire life.  She was a member of St. Mary Of The Assumption Church.  She was a loving mother, grandmother, greatgrandmother and greatgreatgrandmother who was always there to help family and friends when needed.  She especially emjoyed crocheting, quilting, playing bingo and gardening in her yard. 

Surviving are two daughters, Mary Kay Puza and husband Jim, Laveen, AZ. and Karen Musso, Moosic and a son George Varzaly, Clifford.  Also surviving are six grandchildren : Kimberly Benore Korgeski and husband John, Candice Shygelski Monahan and husband Martin, Stephanie Puza Lueras and husband Bob, Andrew Puza, Melinda Musso Thomas and husband Eric and Thomas Musso.  Also surviving are seven greatgrandchildren Darren Benore, Kaitlin Korgeski, Ashley Korgeski, James Shygelski, Kaylie Shygelski, Sarah Shygelski and Alenah Thomas and a greatgreatgrandson Travin Benore.  Also surviving is a brother-in-law, two sisters-in-law and several nieces and nephews.  She was also preceeded in death by four brothers Edward, George, John and Joseph Wagner and three sisters Margaret Arnold, Henrietta McGrath and Gertrude Wolff.

Ella T. Earley, 95, a resident of Scranton, died Tuesday afternoon, February 17, 2009, in Mountainview Care center.  She was the widow of Harry Earley.  Born in Gouldsboro, she was the daughter of the late Daniel and Anna Wert Connolly.  She was a graduate of Lackawanna Business College and worked in the business office of Gibbon's Ford for 28 years.  Prior to her retirement, she worked as a salesperson for the Globe Store.  She enjoyed playing bingo and loved dogs, especially her many dachsunds.  She was a devoted mother, grandmother and greatgrandmother who loved her family dearly. 

She is survived by her granddaughter, Susan Rinaldi and husband Donato, Madison Twp., a greatgranddaughter Victoria Rinaldi, Madison Twp. and nieces and nephews.  She was also preceeded in death by a son Harry, two daughters Jeanine Earley and Barbara Sheerin and a brother John Connolly.

Margaret Oleski, a South Scranton resident, died Monday , February 9, 2009, in Golden Living Center where she had recently become a resident.   She was the wife of the late Thomas Oleski who died in 1967.   Born in Scranton on May 14, 1916, she was a daughter of the late Michael and Susan Onefrey Peckar.  A life long resident of South Scranton, she attended Scranton public schools. 

She was a member of St. Mary's Byzantine Church.  She and her late husband operated Rempe's Bar and Grill until his death.  Later Margaret worked for Scranton State Hospital and the Senior Citizens Center. 

Surviving is a son James Oleski and wife Cathy, Moosic and a daughter Marjorie Smith and husband George, Scranton, a granddaughter, Debbie Smith, Clarks Summit and a grandson George Smith and wife Michelle, Scranton, three additional grandsons Thomas, Donald and Michael Oleski and  several greatgrandchildren including Carissa Smith, and nieces and nephews.  She was also preceeded in death by a son Donald, a brother John, and two sisters Mary Dranshak and Helen Swartz.

Durkin, 45, a South Scranton resident, died Sunday.  He was the husband of the former Cathy Lefchak.  Born in Scranton, he was the son of Mary Ann Holowach Durkin , Carbondale and the late Matthew Durkin Jr.  He was a member of Nativity Of Our Lord Church.   He was a graduate of Carbondale Area High School and was employed by Sanofi Pasteur.  He loved landscaping and gardening.  He enjoyed collecting nautical items.  He was a loving father, brother and uncle who will be sadly missed.

Surviving are two sons; Jude Jacobe and wife Diane, Windham Maine and Mark Jacobe and wife Michele, with whom she resided, a sister Betty Martinelli, Old Forge, two grandchildren and nieces and nephews.  She was also preceeded in death by two sisters Caroline Quist and Ann Smith and a brother Gerard Miller.

Born in Scranton, she was the daughter of the late Anthony and Angela Santioemma Barratti.  She was a member of Nativity Of Our Lord Church and was a graduate of Scranton Technical High School.  She was formerly employed by Haddon Craftsmen and Oppenheim's.  She was a loving and caring mother, grandmother and greatgrandmother. Family was everything to her.  She enjoyed cooking and baking.  She was loved by all who knew her. 

Surviving is a daughter Linda Stefursky, with whom she resided, a son Terrence Stefursky, Charleston W. Va.,  grandchildren Brian A. Mizok Sr., and Jason, Rachel and Jacinta Stefursky and greatgrandchildren Brian Mizok, Jr., and Patrick B., Alexandra, and Brandan Mizok and Tristan Slack.    Also surviving are nieces and nephews.  She was also preceeded in death by a brother John Barratti.

Quinto Ceccacci, January 22, 2009.  Quinto Ceccacci, 86, a Scranton resident, died Thursday, January 22, 2009, in Mountainview Care Center.  His wife of 61 years is the former Flora Paffi.  Born on September 27, 1922, in Scranton, he was the twelfth child of the late Vincent and Stella Caponi Ceccacci. 

He attended local schools and was an army veteran of WWll, serving in the Pacific Theatre and Japan.  In his youth he worked in several family owned bakeries.  He retired from Consolidated Moulded Products Corporation in 1982.  He and his wife owned and operated Paffi's Bar for 35 years.  He was a member of St. John The Evangelist Church and the Evangelist Society.  He was also a member of VFW Post 3451. 

Also surviving is a son Edward Ceccacci, Portland, OR., and a daughter Ann Marie Ceccacci Scheller, Scranton; two granddaughters Stephanie Scheller, Scranton and Arianne Scheller and Matthew Paris and greatgranddaughter, Mia Quinta Paris, Clarks Summit, a brother Ernest Ceccacci and a sister Irene Doria, both of Scranton, nieces, nephews and cousins.  He was also preceeded in death by three brothers Paul Sr., Edward and Sam Ceccacci and six sisters Mary Padeletti, Marianna Padeletti, Tessie Cesarini, Pia Mineo, Dina Mineo and Fortunata Calabrese.  The family would like to thank the caring staff of Mountainview Care Center and VNA Hospice.

Fred Buscarini, 87, died Tuesday afternoon in Colonial Manor, York, Pa.  He was a lifelong resident of Scranton until recently relocating to York.  He was preceeded in death by his wife of 58 years, the former Marie Eardenberger, on March 24, 2002.  Born in Davy, WV. he was the son of the late Mario and Louise Cremonesci Buscarini.  He was a former employee of Preno's Restaurant.  He and his late wife owned and operated Buscarini's Pizza in Scranton's south side.  He was an army veteran of WWll, serving in the 80th Infantry Division under General George Patton's 3rd Army.  He was awarded the Bronze Star for Meritorious Service.  He was active in the 80th Division Veteran's Association. 

He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather who will be deeply missed by all.  Surviving is a son Raymod A. Buscarini and wife Rosemary, New Freedom, Pa., two grandchildren Lynn Ricker and David Buscarini, a brother Oswald, Crawfordsville, FL., two sisters Violet Ceccacci, Scranton and Norma Pendell, Ridley Park, Pa. and nieces and nephews.  He was also preceeded in death by three sisters Yolanda Bucari, Madeline Golden and Lena Arnone. 

The funeral will be Saturday at 10 AM in the August J. Haas Funeral Home, Inc., 202 Pittston Ave., with a Blessing Service with Msgr. Dale Rupert officiating.  Interment Italian American Cemetery.  Friends may call Friday from 4 to 8 PM.

  Rose M. Skoda, 80, a resident of Scranton, died Saturday evening, January 17, 2009, in Mercy Hospice.  She was the widow of Fred Skoda who died March 9, 2005.  Born in Scranton, she was the daughter of the late Domnick and Anna Galinea Coppertino.  She was a member of Nativity Of Our Lord Church and was a graduate of Scranton Technical High School.  She was a loving mother, grandmother and greatgrandmother who will be deeply missed.  She enjoyed watching her favorite TV shows and playing the lottery.  She had a deep appreciation for oriental art. 

Surviving are four sons; Adam Skoda, Factoryville, Dominick Skoda, Joseph and Deno Luciani, all of Scranton, and four daughters Rose Redding, Custer, Pa., and Tina Skoda, Ann Marie Monberger and Pat Crossin all of Scranton, 11 grandchildren and 5 greatgrandchildren.  Also surviving is a brother John Coppertino, Dalton, and two sisters Antoinette Tallo and Jean Bauman, both of Scranton, nieces and nephews.  She was also preceeded in death by two sisters Mary and Pauline Coppertino. 

The funeral will be private and held at the convenience of the family.  There will be no calling hours.  Memorial contributions may be made to Nativity Memorial Fund, 633 Orchard St., Scranton, Pa. 18505.

Paul F. (Smitty) Smith, January 13, 2009.  Paul F. (Smitty) Smith, 45, a South Scranton resident, died Tuesday, January 13, 2009 at home after being stricken ill.  Born in Syracuse, NY., he was the son of the late Dolores Savitsky and the late John H. Smith.  He was a graduate of Sacred Hearts Parochial School and Scranton Technical High School.  He was employed locally in the auto repair business.  Paul loved animals and was always there for anyone in need. 

 Surviving is a sister Geraldine Karsnak and husband John, Jefferson Twp. and a brother John Smith and wife Michelle, Throop, a niece Maryann Smith, and cousins and two aunts Helen Savitsky, Minooka and Florence Yorkanis, NJ.

Donald A. Woodbridge, 87, a Scranton resident, died Friday, January 9, 2009, at home.  His widow is the former Lillian  Albrecht.  Born in Scranton, he was the son of the late Alfred and Letti Miller Woodbridge.  He was a graduate of Scranton Technical High School and was a retired employee of Tobyhanna Army Depot.  He was an Army Air Force veteran of WWll.

  Also surviving is a son Donald Woodbridge, Fort Myers, FL. and two daughters Jacqueline Gurz and husband Robert, and Carol Green, both of Tifton, GA. eight grandchildren and five greatgrandchildren and nieces and nephews.  He was also preceeded in death by a grandson Ronald Green and two brothers William M. Woodbridge and Robert K. Woodbridge.

  Funeral Services will be held Monday at 11 AM in the August J. Haas Funeral Home, Inc., 202 Pittston Ave., officiating will be Rev. Michael Bryant.  Interment, private in Prospect Hill Cemetery, Peckville.  Friends may call Monday morning from 9 to 11 AM.
