Albert R. Pilotti, 89, a former Scranton resident, died Saturday, December 25, 2010, at the home of his son surrounded by his loving family. He was the loving husband of the late Annette Ferrese Pilotti who died November 21, 2010. The couple was married for 63 years.

Born in South Scranton, he was the son of the late Louis and Caroline Colona Pilotti. He was a member of St. Lucy's Roman Catholic Church. Prior to his retirement, Albert was an employee of Simplex Manufacturing Company specializing in plumbing and heating for over 40 years. He was so mechanically-inclined that throughout the years it was Albert that family, friends and neighbors would call upon when anything needed to be built, installed or fixed. He proposed to Annette on Christmas Day and after their marriage in 1947, they resided in the Hyde Park section of Scranton and raised their two children. Four years ago they moved to Bucks County to be closer to their son, daughter and grandchildren. Albert spent his retirement years traveling with Annette in order to keep up with his son and daughter's many moves and always being involved in his grandchildrens lives by attending recitals and sporting events.

His twilight years were especially brightened by his greatgrandsons; Sammy and James Purdum. Albert enjoyed gardening and was especially proud of his tomato plants, often having contests with his neighbors for who had grown the best tomatoes. He loved Italian music and could often be found singing along to Italian music. Albert was known by many names; Al, Dad, Grandpa, Papa and Uncle to those who knew and loved him and will be sorely missed by all. Surviving are a son Robert Pilotti and wife Nona, Yardley, with whom he resided, and a daughter Carol Ann Pilotti, Newtown, grandchildren Lisa and Chris Purdum, Andrew and Sabrina Pilotti, and great grandchildren Samuel and James Purdum.

He was also preceeded in death by a brother Roger and sisters Lena Piepoli, Louise Martins and Mamie Nirchi.

The funeral will be Wednesday with Mass at 10 AM in St. Francis Of Assisi Church, 630 Genet St., to be celebrated by Msgr. Philip A. Gray. Interment Italian-American Cemetery, Minooka Section.

Richard J. Briga, a South Scranton resident, died Saturday, December 18, 2010, in the Hospice Unit of Mercy Hospital from a long, heroic battle with Fanconi Anemia.

Born in Scranton on September 7, 1957, he was the son of the late Nino Briga and also Preziosa Pellegrini Briga, with whom he resided, his devoted mother who cared for him and accompanied him during his extensive cancer treatments at the Medical center of the University of Minnesota, Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania, and Jefferson Medical center over the last 13 years. Rich was a graduate of Eastern Washington University, Cheney, Washington, where he received a Bachelor Of Science Degree in Business Administration. Prior to his illness he was employed by the Lackawanna County Human Development Agency, Scranton. Rich was truly an individualist who was an avid lover of nature and the outdoors. He was a person of deep humility, courage, perseverance and quiet wisdom. He was also a passionate backpacker, hiker, angler and cyclist. Even as neck, throat and lung cancer ravished his body, he pushed himself to bike and hike long distances as late as August of this year. He enjoyed life to the fullest, without complaint and he was an insipation to those who think of giving up.

Also surviving are his devoted brother and bone marrow donor, David A. Briga and wife Annette, his beloved sister Anita O'Brien and her husband Patrick, and two nephews; PJ O'Brian and John O'Brian. Rich was admired and respected by all who knew him including his many friends and physicians. The family would like to thank Drs. David Cognetti, Howard Krein, Ryan Heffelfinger, William Keane from Jefferson; Drs. Stephen Schuster, Gregory Weinstein and Ronald Fairman from Penn; Dr. John Wagner from the University Of Minnesota; and Drs. Keith Pritchyk, Salvatore Scialla, Christopher Peters, Joanne Zenker and MaryAnn McDonald from Scranton. In accordance with Rich's wishes, there will be no viewing and private services at the convenience of the family will be conducted. True to his generous and optimistic nature and spirit, Rich was a donor to the NDRI ( National Disease Research Interchange ) to help others who suffer from rare diseases such as his. Donations in his memory may be offered to the Fanconi Anemia Research Fund, 1801 Willamette St., Suite 200, Eugene, Oregon 97401.

Rose Marie A. Sillner 84, a West Scranton resident, died Wednesday, December 15, 2010, in Dunmore Health Care Center. She was the wife of Carl Sillner and the couple was maried for 30 years.

Born in Scranton, she was the daughter of the late Frank and Antonette Salamida Blasi. She was a member of St. Patrick's Church and attended Scranton public schools. She was a retired employee of Woolworth's where she was the assistant manager of the counter restaurant. She was active in the Scranton Liederkranz and was president of it's Ladies Auxiliary.

She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and greatgrandmother and sister who will be deeply missed. She was devoted to her family. The family wishes to thank "her girls", the staff of Dunmore Health Care Center and Hospice.

Also survivng is a brother Frank Blasi and wife Rose, Peckville, grandchildren Rose Marie Alfano and husband Jay, Julie, Sandy and Philip Masker, five greatgrandchildren and nieces and nephews.

Born in Scranton, she was the daughter of the late John and Catherine Kennedy Sheerin. She was a member of St. John Neumann Parish. She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother who will be deeply missed.

Surviving is a grandson James P. Forrester, Philadelphia, a daughter-in-law Judy Forrester, Throop, and nieces and nephews including her caregivers Kathryn Duffy and Marie Hopkins, both of Scranton. She was also preceeded in death by a son James P. Forrester and a sister Mary Corcoran and two brothers; infant Daniel and John Sheerin.

Claire Barrett Reichle, a Scranton resident, died Monday, November 29, 2010, in Hospice Community Care, Dunmore. She was the wife of the late Joseph E. Reichle who died February 2, 2010.

Born in Scranton, she was the daughter of the late John and Ellen Howley Barrett. She was a graduate of Dunmore High School and was a member of Holy Rosary Church. Her children and grandchildren were the joy of her life. She was a loyal Red Sox fan, an avid reader and crossword-puzzle enthusiast. The family would like to express their thanks to the nurses and staff of Hospice Community Care and all health care givers throughout the years for their compassion and loving care.

Surviving are children Robert Reichle, Joseph Reichle and wife Maggie, Maryellen Edwards, Gerard Reichle and wife Veronica, Paul Reichle and wife JoAnne, John Reichle and wife Donna and James Reichle and wife Donna. Also surviving are grandchildren Robert, Thomas , Sarah, Laura, Kayla, Mariah, John, Lauren, Rachel, Eric, James and Nicholas, as well as nieces and nephews. She was also preceeded in death by brothers Joseph Barrett, John Barrett and John Mullen and sisters Elizabeth Corbett, Anna Golden, Helen Jeffers and Mary McCall.

She attended Scranton public schools and was a homemaker. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and greatgrandmother who will be deeply missed. Born in Scranton, she was the daughter of the late Thomas L. and Anna King Fahey. She was a graduate of Scranton Central High School and was a retired employee of Atlas Industries. She was a member of St. John Neumann Parish and the Golden Age Club. She enjoyed Pokino and Shuffelboard. She was a loving mother, grandmother and greatgeandmother and sister who will be deeply missed. She enjoyed talking to her sister, Mary, everyday.

Surviving are two sons; Edward F. Duffy, Jr. and wife Grace, Scranton, and Joseph Duffy and wife Marygrace, Stafford, VA., a daughter Ann Regina Snyder, Stafford, VA., a sister Mary Bauer, Scranton, 15 grandchildren, 25 greatgrandchildren and one greatgreatgrandchild, nieces. nephews and her caregiver Debbie Izak/Lucke and a special friend, Jill Snyder. She was also preceeded in death by a son Paul Duffy, a brother Joseph Fahey and five sisters; Ethel Frable, Lorraine Connery, Rosemary Fahey, Delores O'Holleran and Jacqueline Gavitt and a great granddaughter Sidney Snyder.

Annette A. Pilotti, 87, a Scranton resident, died Sunday, November 21, 2010, at the home of her son in Yardly, Pa. She was the beloved wife of 62 years to Albert Pilotti.

Born in Mayfield, she was the daughter of the late James and Caroline Datto Ferrese. Annette grew up in the Hyde Park section of Scranton and was a 1941 graduate of Scranton Central High School. Annette graduated from Hahnemann Hospital School Of Nursing as a Professional Registered Nurse in 1947. She also attended Mansfield State University. During her professional nursing career, she worked for Pediatrician Dr. Stephen Rosenthal and retired after 20 plus years with Moses Taylor Hospital. Annette enjoyed her family first and foremost always cooking and taking care of her family which included her cousins Rev. Msgr. Philip A. Gray and Anna-Mae Acquisto.

During retirement Annette traveled to keep up with her son's and daughter's numerous relocations. In 2006 she and Albert relocated to the Buck's County area to be close to her their son, daughter and their grandchildren. Regardless of whether she was called Annette, Mom, Grandma or Aunt Annette, she will be sorely missed by everyone who came to know and love her. She was a member of St. Lucy's Church.

Survivng are a son Robert Pilotti and wife Nona, with whom she resided and a daughter Carol Ann Pilotti, Newtown, Pa., grandchildren Lisa and Chris Purdum, Andrew and Sabrina Pilotti and greatgrandchildren Samuel and James Purdum. She was preceeded in death by a sister Edith Judge and two brothers Philip and Ralph Ferrese.

Edmund J. Reif, 81, a Scranton resident, died Friday, November 18, 2010, in Holy Family Residence. His wife of nearly 50 years is the former Joan Marie Geiger, also a resident of Holy Family Residence.

Born in Scranton on November 12, 1929, he was the son of the late Lackawanna County Commissioner Edmund H. Reif and Josephine Lutz Reif. He was a graduate of St. Mary Of The Assumption High School, Class of 1949, and throughout his life was dedicated to both St. Mary Of The Assumption parish and to his neighborhood. As a boy he served on the altar at St. Mary's; as an adult he derived great joy from cooking potato pancakes for the parish picnic and bowling in St. Mary's House League. He was an avid bowler also with South Side Bowl and Idle Hours. Later, he actively supported the South Side Neighborhood Association, participating in No-Crime Fighters and in Neighborhood Association walks.

He served in the Korean War from 1952 to 1954 in the 279th Infantry Regiment of the US Army. He was awarded the Combat Infantryman Badge and the Good Conduct Medal. He was employed at his family's business, Lewis And Reif, Inc. the electrical wholesaling firm, from 1949 to 1984. He later retired from the Scranton School District Maintainance Dept. in 1999. For the fifty years of his carrer he worked with the joy of a young man. Energetic, full of high spirits and good humor, he welcomed everyone he met as a friend. He was a man generous with his time and a smile. He died surrounded by his loving family. Edmund's family would like to thank the entire staff of Holy Family Residence for the love and care they gave him.

Also surviving are two daughters; Paulanne Kraus and husband Charles, Carbondale, and Mary Lynn Lucas and husband Robert, Scranton, three sisters; Rosalie Steinmetz and husband Edward, Marcella Reif, all of Scranton and Sister Edmund Joseph, S.C.C., Mendham, NJ., three grandchildren; Maegan and Mackenzie Lucas and Robert Joseph Lucas, Scranton and one adored greatgrandson Evan Brink, nieces, nephews and cousins. He was also preceeded in death by his brother and best friend Cyril J. Reif.

The funeral will be Monday with Mass at 10:30 AM in the Chapel of Holy Family Rsidence to be celebrated by Rev. E. Francis Kelly, Chaplain, and Rev. Joseph O. Weber. Interment St. Mary Of The Assumption Cemetery, South Scranton.

Duane Louis Gavitt, a south Scranton resident, died Sunday, November 14, 2010. at Allied Services Skilled Care, Scranton, after a seven year battle with Alzheimer's. He was preceeded in death by his wife of nearly fifty years, Jacqueline Fahey, who died Feb. 20, 2004. Born in Clark's Green, February 15, 1930, he was a son of the late Otis D. and Jeannette Clark Gavitt. He was a direct descendent of Deacon William Clark, pioneer settler of the Abington area.

He attended Clark's Summit schools and after moving to Scranton, he graduated from Scranton Technical High School. He was an Air Force veteran of the Korean Conflict and upon returning home he married his wife on August 14, 1954 in Nativity Of Our Lord Church. Mr. Gavitt was employed by the former Giant Markets for over 40 years.

He was a long time devoted member of Trinity Baptist Church, Green Ridge, where he served as Deacon, as well as Superintendent of the Sunday School. Along with the many activites of his church, he also was involved in prison ministry at the Lackawanna County Facility for a number of years. His kind affiable nature brought security and love to his marriage and his home - his uncompromising faith, nourished by the Scriptures, inspired his son to seek ordination as a priest. He was an honorable man. His son and family would like to thank the staff at Alled for their exceptional care.

Surviving is a son, Rev. J. Duane Gavitt, Pastor of Immaculate Conception Church, Freeland, three sisters Helen Owens and Barbara Donovan, both of Clark's Summit, Victoria Guditis , Scranton, a brother Allan J. Gavitt and wife Mary, Port Ritchie, FL., and numerous nieces and nephews. He was also preceeded in death by a sister Katherine Dodge.

Pauline Gatti, 87, a South Scranton resident, died Sunday evening, November 7, 2010, in Moses Taylor Hospital. She was the widow of Elio Gatti who died October 21, 2001, and the couple was married for 54 years.

Born in Scranton, she was the daughter of the late Salvatore and Mary Pamelia Aquilina. She was a member of St. Paul Of The Cross Parish, St. Francis Of Assisi Church. She was a graduate of Scranton Technical High School, Class of 1941. She was employed at the cafeteria of The University Of Scranton and was a retired employee of the Scranton School District, Book Repository at South Scranton Junior High School. She was a member of " The Girl's Club". She enjoyed her grandchildren's sporting events especially soccer games and musical events especially concerts and piano recitals. She also enjoyed all family gatherings.

Surviving are two daughters, Mary Ann Gatti, at home and Jovanna Rusnak, Archbald, two grandchildren Gina and Randy Rusnak, an aunt Catherine Colletti and an uncle Benedict Pamelia, cousins, nieces and nephews. She was also preceeded in death by a brother Stephen J. Aquilina.

Albert J. (Al) Tullio, 60, a South Scranton resident, died Thursday evening, October 28, 2010, at home after being stricken ill. His wife is Joan Marie Graff Tullio and the couple was married for 38 years.

Born in Scranton he was the son of the late Albert R. and Jennie Masciotta Tullio. He was a graduate of South Scranton Central Catholic High School and The University Of Scranton. He was self employed in the restaurant and catering business for over 30 years.

He enjoyed being with his family, spending time with his grandchildren, trips to New York City and working in his career. He had a strong work ethic and helped many less fortunate people. He was a practicing Catholic who attended many churches and contributed to all of them. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather who will be deeply missed.

Also surviving are two sons; Allen Tullio and wife Karen, Olyphant, and Jonathan Tullio and wife Katie, Dunmore, a daughter Amy Rodriguez and husband Alvaro, New York City, four grandchildren; Kyle, Morgan, and Nicholas Tullio and Nico Giuliano Rodriguez and one expectant granddaughter, and cousins.

John P. Koppenhaver, 88, a South Scranton resident, died Monday, October 11, 2010 in Allied Skilled Nursing Facility. He was the husband of the former Gina Benci Koppenhaver who died in 1999.

Born in Sunbury, he was the son of the late Jacob M. and Maybell Hartman Koppenhaver. He was a retired employee of Greyhound Bus Lines. He was a World War ll Army veteran who participated in the D Day invasion of Normandy Beach and served in the European Theatre. He was discharged as a Seargent.

Surviving are two daughters; Gina Lynn Koppenhaver and Deborah Gabriel both of Ocean City, MD and a granddaughter Bobbi Ann Gabriel, three neices Inez Stabilito, June Benci Regni and Janice Benci Cooney and a nephew Att. Ralph Iori. He was also preceeded in death by several brothers and sisters.

A celebration of John's life will be held Saturday, November 6, 2010, at 1 PM in the chapel at Italian-American Cemetery, Minooka Section. Robert Peil, 61, a South Scranton resident, died Monday, October 18, 2010. Born in Scranton, he was the son of Geraldine Demuth Peil, Scranton, and the late Robert J. Peil. He was a loving son, brother and uncle who will be deeply missed. He loved his dog Brady.

Florence M. Saffer, 93, formerly of Roaring Brook Twp. and Scranton, died Tuesday, October 12, 2010, in Riverside Rehabilitaion and Nursing Center, Taylor. She was the widow of George Saffer who died in 1993.

Born in Scranton, she was the daughter of the late George and Marie Nemety Schimmelfening. She was a member of St. Eulalia Church where she had been involved in church activities for many years.

She was an LPN and was a retired employee of Moses Taylor Hospital, Central Supply Division. Florence was admired and deeply loved for the kind, loving and generous person she was. She will be deeply missed. The family wishes to sincerely thank the staff and nurses of the Riverside Rehabilitaion and Nursing center for the care given to Florence.

Surviving are a daughter Anne Moran and husband William, Roaring Brook Twp., three grandchildren and their spouses, six granddaughters, nieces, nephews and cousins. She was also preceeded in death by two sisters and four brothers.

She was a loving wife and devoted mother who enjoyed traveling particularly to Ireland and meeting Pope John Paul ll. She was a loving and generous person who had a lifelong love of children especially her nieces and nephews. Eleanor Boos Weber, 82, of South Scranton, died at home on Saturday, October 2, 2010, surrounded by her loving family. She is survived by her husband Paul Weber. The couple would have celebrated their 58th wedding anniversary on October 18, 2010.

Born in Scranton, she was the daughter of the late Albert and Genevieve Foy Boos. She was a member of the former St. Mary Of The Assumption Church, and is presently a member of St. Paul Of The Cross Parish. She attended Holy Rosary and graduated from St. Mary's High School. She was a telephone operator and supervisor at Bell telephone. Se was an avid sports lover and a lifelong Phillies fan. She enjoyed playing cards and bingo. Nothing gave her greater joy than watching her grandchildren grow and attending their sporting events. She was a loving and loyal wife, mother and grandmother and was a friend to many. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her.

Francis M. (Braz) Brazill of the Green Ridge Section Of Scranton, formerly of the Nativity Section, died Thursday, September 30, 2010, in AseraCare Hospice, Peckville. He was the husband of the former Ann Marie Lafferty and the couple was married for 46 years.

Born in Scranton, he was the son of the late Frank A. and Ceil O'Donnell Brazill. He was a graduate of South Catholic High School and was a member of IBEW Local 81 for 45 years and was a former Executive Board member. As a young man he became involved in local politics and was a Democratic Committeman, Chairman of the 112 Legislative District, City Democratic Chairman For Scranton and retired as Director of Facilities and Grounds for Lackawanna County. He was a delegate to the Democratic Convention in New York City that nominated President Carter. He is a member of the Scranton School Board and was a former Vice President of the Board. He was an official for PIAA Fotball and Basketball for 45 years. He was a member of St. Paul's Church and was a devotee of St. Ann and Padre Pio. He was a member of The Friendly Sons Of St. Patrick and was Past President of the St. Patrick's Day Parade Assn. He was a loving and loyal husband, father and grandfather and was a friend to many. He will be deeply missed. The family wishes to thank the staff of Heartland Hospice for all their care and support.

He will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him. Linus E. Cronkey, 84, a South Scranton resident, died Friday morning, September 3, 2010, in Mercy Hospice. Born in Scranton, he was the son of the late Edward and Frances Graff Cronkey. He was a graduate of Central High School and was employed by Sandone Tire Co. for 40 years.

He was a member of The Knights Of Columbus and the Nativity Social Club. Linus had a very sharp memory and was able to recall names, dates, locations and events with ease. He enjoyed family dinners, dining out and reminiscing about the good old days, especially with his late cousin Dolores.

Survivng are cousins including his caregiver Marianne Dorio and husband Martin and their children.

Vitalina (Lena) Gregoris Cecco, September 2, 2010 Vitalina (Lena) Gregoris Cecco, 90, a South Scranton resident died Thursday at the home of her daughter, Marisa Cecco Smith, Ashburn, VA, after a courageous battle with cancer. She was preceded in death by her husband, Guerrino Cecco, who died in 2002. The couple was married 50 years. Born in Codroipo, Undine, Italy she was the daughter of the late Elia and Emila Cecconi Gregoris. She was a member of St. Paul of the Cross Parish, St. Francis of Assisi Church. She was employed by Vermont Sportswear prior to her retirement in 1978.She was a member of the ILGWU.

Surviving is a daughter, Marisa Cecco Smith and husband, Thomas, and a grandson, Christopher Thomas, all of Ashburn, VA, a brother Daniel Gregoris, Binghamton, NY and many nieces and nephews. She was also preceded in death by a sister, Adele Franchini.

Family and friends will always remember Lena as being a kind and generous person with great faith in God and who always extended herself for anyone she could help. She enjoyed working both outside and inside the home, particularly gaining much satisfaction from her hobbies of sewing and cooking outstanding Italian meals for her family. Later in life her greatest treasure was her grandson, Christopher who she nicknamed "Pipinut". One of her greatest joys was caring for him during the first six months of his life. She so enjoyed the time she spent with him and will certainly remember him and her family in her prayers as she begins her new life with God.

The family would like to thank the following doctors and their staffs for all their care and attentiveness: Dr. Philip Boccagno, Dr. William Heim, Dr. Michael Burke and Dr. Nicholas Robert. Leonard Everett Mark, 84, formerly of Scott Twp., Lackawanna County, died Monday in hospital. He resided at The Laurels Senior Living Community, Hazleton, for the past 11 months. Leonard was predeceased in October 2009 by his wife of 56 years, Honor.

Leonard was born in 1925 near Sedley, Saskatchewan, Canada, on the prairie homestead of his late parents Nicholas Wellington Mark and Marion Adair. His family, including sister Blanche and brothers Howard, Gordon, and Jackie, moved often throughout Canada during his early years.

Leonard, a World War II Flight Engineer in the Royal Canadian Air Force (RCAF), served in both the European and India-Burma Theaters with RCAF Squadrons and Royal Air Force (RAF) squadrons. He primarily served in No. 426 Squadron RCAF flying the Lancaster, Halifax, and Liberator aircraft on weather and reconnaissance missions in Europe and later transport missions in India. By the end of his service in 1946, Leonard had received a field commission to the rank of Pilot Officer with duty as Squadron Assistant Engineer Leader.

After WWII, Leonard worked in the mining, drilling, and aeronautic industries in Canada. He moved his young family to Pennsylvania and worked many years in Scranton for Sprague and Henwood, Inc, as a business developer and as a particularly adept problem solver in the company’s world wide drilling operations. Later, Leonard operated his own national and international drilling consulting firm. He completed his career as a drilling, chemical and mechanical engineering consultant working for the United Nations in several countries in Africa, Asia, and Eastern Europe. Leonard became a USA citizen.

Leonard’s wartime, career, and personal travel took him many places throughout the world and he enjoyed them all. He was proud of and shared many stories of his visits to every province and territory of Canada, 49 of the 50 United States, over 40 countries, and all seven continents – Antarctica included.

Leonard was an avid reader, wrote poetry, played championship level cribbage, was a student of photography, and enjoyed long walks with his beloved Siberian Husky, Terra Butte.

Leonard dearly loved his family and was very proud of their achievements.

Surviving are three daughters, Brandé A. Mark-Falzett and husband, Frank Falzett; Deiren E. Mark and husband, Robert Lengyel; and Mardi U. Mark and husband, Edward Fallon; and a son, Alexander L. and wife, Patricia Mark; six grandchildren, Tiber and Skye Falzett; Colin and Corey Lengyel; and Andrew and Lucas Mark; and several nieces and nephews.

Friends may call at 9 AM, Monday, July 19, 2010, at Nativity of Our Lord Church, 633 Orchard Street, Scranton. A Funeral Mass will follow at 9:30 AM celebrated by the Rev. Michael Bryant, pastor. Inurnment private at the convenience of the family.

Joanne M. Brady, July 6, 2010.  Joanne M. Brady, a South Scranton resident, died Tuesday, July 6, 2010, in Mercy Hospice.  She was the wife of F. Robert Brady and the couple would have celebrated their 56th Wedding Anniversary on October 2, 2010.  Born in Scranton, she was the daughter of the late John R. and Anna Mae Stanavage Atcachunas.  She recieved her elementary education at St. Joseph's Lithuanian School and was a graduate of Scranton Technical High School.  She was a member of St. John Neumann Parish and was a lector and Eucharistic Minister.  She was active in community educational and civic organizations.  She was co-chairperson of the first outdoor Lackawanna Arts Festival at Courthouse Square and continued working on subsequent festivals, eventually having, with her daughter, their own booth selling handmade bread dough ornaments.  She was president of the Junior Century Club and chairperson of various events.  She served on the Board Of Directors of the Lackawanna Arts Council and as Executive Secretary of the organization.  She served as Chairperson for the first Celebrity Auctioneers for Auction 44 WVIA and in following years she was publicity chairperson.  She was elected to The Board Membership, Museum Association of Scranton Everhart Museum and served as Public Relation Chairperson, Secertary and Treasurer for the Artist-In-Residence Program.  She was on the committee for the Ethnic Christmas Tree Exhibit and Museum Ball.  She served on the Board Of Directors, Community Concert Association, served on the Membership Committee and was elected Secretary and 2nd Vice President.  She was listed in Community Leaders Of America, Directory On International Biography World's Who's Who Of Women and Outstanding Area Women.  Joanne enjoyed skiing.  She skied locally, out west, New England and in the Alps.  She was a member of the Scranton Ski Club.  She enjoyed gardening, growing her own raspberries to make jam and jellies, playing bridge, opera and the outdoors. 

She had a special relationship with her grandchildren, teaching them gardening, painting with them and just plain listening to them.  Special thanks to the medical staff at Mercy Hospice.  Their attention to Joanne and all the patients are to be emulated.  Also, special thanks to Dr. Brereton and Dr. Heim and staff.  I could hear them say " Here comes Joanne with all her questions why and just get is done before ski season".  She was an ardent reader on her condition and always had questions.

Kathryn L. Parli, July 4, 2010.  Kathryn L. Parli, 94, a South Scranton resident, died  Sunday evening, July 4, 2010, at Mountain View Care Center.  She was the widow of Edmund Parli who passed away in 2002.  The couple was married  for 61 years.  Born in Scranton, she was the daughter of the late John and Agnes Cooney McGee.  She was a member of St. John Neumann Parish and was invovlved in many church activities including Eucharistic Minister, summer festival treasurer, Altar and Rosary Society and volunteer at bingo.  At the age of 16 she graduated from St. John's High School.  She was employed for many years in the business office of Mercy Heights Hospital and Mercy Hospital prior to her retirement.  Kathryn was a kind and gentle mother who always put her family first.  She was proud of her heritage, loved singing Irish songs, and will be remembered for her deep faith, quick wit, sense of humor and contagious smile.  She passed away surrounded by her loving family singing her favorite Irish songs. 

Survivng are two daughters; Mary Jane McGurrin and husband Marty, Scranton and Joanne Giacometti and husband Albert, Old Forge, eight grandchildren; Chris, Matt, Jeff and Bridget McGurrin; Maria and Melissa Giacometti; and Jennifer and Sarah Parli; sisters Agnes Judge, Ambler, Marcella Murphy, Scranton and Rosemary Reddington and husband Joseph, Needham, MA., and many nieces, nephews and cousins.  She was also preceeded in death by a son Thomas, an infant sister Mary and two brothers Francis and James McGee.  The family would like to thank the staff of Mountain View Care Center and Hospice Of The Sacred Heart for their kind and compassionate care.

Dolores Walsh, July 3, 2010.  Dolores Walsh, 92, formerly of Stafford Ave., South Scranton, died Saturday, July 3, 2010, at the home of her daughter.  She was the widow of Francis E. Walsh who died April 21, 1985.  Born in Scranton, she was the daughter of the late Charles and Margaret Graff Warner.  She was a lifelong member of the former St. Mary Of The Assumption Parish and it's Altar and Rosary Society.  She was also a member of the South Scranton After 50 Club.  She was presently a member of St. Peter's Cathedral Parish.  Her greatest joy was spending time with her family.  She passed away surrounded by her loving family.  The family would like to thank Dr. Michelle Hazzouri for her dedication and compassion in caring for Dolores. 

Surviving are two daughters; Marita Barycki and husband Donald, Sr., Old Forge, and Marianne Dorio and husband Martin, Sr., with whom she resided, three sons; Martin Walsh and wife Faye, Colonial Heights, VA., Joseph Walsh and wife Debra, Pottstown and Francis A. Walsh and wife Donna, Scranton, 15 grandchildren including Martin Dorio, Jr., Amanda and Michael Dorio, with whom she also resided, 9 greatgrandchildren and nieces and nephews.  She was also preceeded in death by two brothers Willam and Charles Warner and two sisters Anna Pistor and Rita Graff.

Rosemary M. Donovan, June 23, 2010.  Rosemary M. Donovan, 84, a Scranton resident, died Wednesday, June 23, 2010, in Scranton after a brief illness.  She was the widow of Paul K. Donovan who died in 1975.  Born in Scranton on Valentines Day, 1926,  she was the daughter of the late Edward and Mary McGuire Lavelle.   She was a graduate of Scranton Central High School and the School Of Nursing at Scranton State Hospital.  She retired in 1988 after a 40 year career in nursing at hospitals in Brooklyn, NY. and Scranton.  In 1947 she married Paul K. Donovan. 

Surviving is a son Neil Donovan and wife Dawn, grandchildren Ryan and Brooke and greatgrandson Patrick, all of Devon.  She also is survived by a niece Patricia Fox, Olyphant, and nephews William Donovan and Robert Donovan and wife Nancy,  grandnephews Sean and Neil, and a grandniece Wimberly, as well as many dear friends at the Geneva House. 

A Memorial Mass will be celebrated on Wednesday, July 7, 2010,  at 9:30 AM in Nativity Of Our Lord Church, 633 Orchard St., with Rev Michael Bryant, Pastor, officiating.  Inurnment Cathedral Cemetery.  The family will greet family and friends at the church from 9 AM to 9:30 AM    Arrangements by August J. Patricia E. Hughes Monopoli, 72, a South Scranton resident, died Friday, June 25, 2010, in Mercy Hospice after a curageous battle with cancer.  She was the wife of Anthony Monopoli ll, and the couple was married for 55 years. 

Born in Scranton, she was the daughter of the late Myles and Margaret  Telepchak Hughes.  She was a member of St. Francis of Assisi Church, now St. Paul Of The Cross Parish.  She was educated in Scranton schools.  She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, greatgrandmother and sister.  She loved cooking and always put others first and enjoyed her grandchildren and greatgrandson. 

Also surviving is a daughter Nancy Minicozzi, Scranton, and three sons; John Monopoli and wife Felice, Voorhes, NJ., Mark Monopoli, Scranton and Anthony Monopoli lll and wife Cindy, Drums, a sister Jean Pierre, Scranton and grandchildren Toni Marie Minicozzi, Max and Julian Elefant-Monopoli and a greatgrandson Evan Thomas Minicozzi-Wahlen.  She was also preceeded in death by a son Joseph Monopoli and a brother Joseph Telepchak.  The funeral will be private and held at the convenience of the family.  Interment Italian-American Cemetery, Minooka Section.

Mary L. Stevens, a resident of Mountainview Care Center, died Thursday, June 17, 2010, in VNA Hospice at CMC.  She was the widow of William J. Stevens who died in 2000.  Born in Scranton, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Rose Rini Pusateri and was stepdaughter of the late Clementine Romiti Pusateri.  She was a graduate of Scranton Technical High School and resided in Syracuse, NY. for many years before returning to Scranton.  She was a member of St. Paul Of The Cross Parish. 

Surviving is a son William J. Stevens and wife Laura Salzburg, NY, NY.  a grandson Miles Stevens, and a brother Anthony Pusateri, Scranton, two sisters Ann Radgowski, Scranton and Rose Menichetti and husband Joseph, Meridian, CT.and nieces, nephews and cousins.  She was also preceeded in death by a brother, Peter Pusateri.

Miriam Schneider, 80, a South Scranton resident, died Saturday morning, June 5, 2010, in VNA Hospice at CMC. She was the wife of George Schneider, Sr. and the couple was married for 55 years. Born in Scranton, she was the daughter of the late Patrick F. and Bridget Convey Heffron.

She was a member of St. Mary Of The Assumption Church, now St. John Neumann Parish. She was a member of the former St. Mary's Altar and Rosary Society and the Quilter's Club. She was a member of Scranton Central High School, Class of 1948. She was a former Girl Scout Leader and a Den Mother for the Cub Scouts. She was a member of St. Mary's Parent Teacher Guild, the Legion Of Mary and the South Scranton Little league Womens's Auxiliary, the Lackawanna County Federation Of Democratic Women and was named Woman Of The Year in 2000. She was also a member of the Democratic Committee Women of the 112 District.

She was famous for her homemade pies, she ran numerous bus trips to New York City for fundraisers for local organizations. Miriam was very dedicated to her faith and the Democratic Party. She hosted numerous tea parties for local candidates. The family would like to thank Miriam's doctors; Dr. D. Ruggeiro and Dr. A Sholi and staffs, the staff at VNA Hospice at CMC, the staff at Mountainview Rehabilitation Center, especially Bella Bay and staff at Traditional Home Health.

Also surviving are sons; George Scneider, Jr. and wife JoAnn, Old Forge, Patrick and wife Cheryl and Charles and wife Kate, all of Scranton, and a daughter MaryEllen Richards and husband Michael, Scranton; grandchildren; Elizabeth, Brittney and Coutrney Schneider and Michael Richards, Jr.. Lillian Schnessel, May 31, 2010.  Lillian Schnessel, 92, a South Scranton resident, died Monday, May 31, 2010, in VNA Hospice At CMC.  She was the widow of the late Joseph Schnessel who died July 9, 1969.  Born in Scranton, she was the daughter of the late Chelso and Kathleen Norton Pilotti.  She was educated in Scranton public schools and was a member of St. John Neumann Parish. 

Prior to retirement, she was employed for 10 years by Stanley Home Products and by the Globe Store for 20 years.  For two years she worked at Remington Arms and Ammunition plant preparing bullets for soldier's rifles.  She was a founding member of The Catholic Golden Age Club, Dunmore Chapter and served as treasurer for four years.  She was also a member of the United States Amatuer Ballroom Dance Association.  She was a member of the Scranton Activity Center, later the  Downtown Senior Center for 25 years.  She taught Line Dancing lessons at the Center for 6 years. 

Surviving is a son Robert Schnessel and wife Kathy, Scranton; a grandson Jarett Schnessel and wife Sue, NYC, a granddaughter Robyn Schnessel, Myrtle Beach, SC. and sisters: LaVerne Del Prete, Delores Colangelo and Elaine Miller, all of Scranton and a brother Charles Pilotti, Detona, FL. and nieces and nephews.  She was also preceeded in death by sisters Eleanor Reina, Mabel  and Marlene Pilotti, Catherine McArdle, Elizabeth Kochis and a brother Joseph Pilotti.

Cotter, Jr.,  70, a South Scranton resident, died Saturday, May 22, 2010, in VNA Hospice at CMC.  His wife is the former Barbara Thomas and the couple was maried for 43 years.  Born in Scranton, he was the son of the late Thomas E. and Esther Murphy Cotter, Sr.  He was a member of St. John Neumann Parish and was a retired employee of Crystal Soda Co.   He was a graduate of Scranton Technical High School, Class of 1959.   He was a member of the 606 Club and the Teamsters Union.  He was a sports fan and enjoyed the Phillies and Notre Dame Football.  He was a loving husband and father who will be deeply missed. 

Also surviving are three sisters; Ann Heim, Clarks Summit, Alice Karam and husband Frank and Gerri Dembrosky and husband Steve, all of Scranton and nieces and nephews.  He was also preceeded in death by a daughter, Wendy J, Cotter who died September 22, 2008  Cremation took place at Maple Hill at Salem Road, Archbald.

He was preceeded in death by his wife of 60 years, the former Marie Hazinski, who died March 2, 2008. Born in Scranton, he was the son of the late August and Mary Thiel Strasburger.

He was a member of St. Mary Of The Assumption Church, now St. John Neumann Parish. He was a retired employee of Marywood University. He was a World War ll veteran serving in the European Theatre with the 452 ND Bomb Squadron, 300and 22nd Bomb Group. He was a member of the Daleville VFW. He was a loving husband and father and good friend to many. Surviving is a son Richaed J. Strasburger, Deep Creek Lake, MD., a sister Dorothy Puksta, Scranton and nieces and nephews. He was also preceeded in death by a son John T. (Jack) Strasburger and a brother Joseph Strasburger.

Thomas Joseph Walsh, 82, of Arlington, Va. , formerly of Scranton, died Sunday, May 9, 2010, at home.  He was preceeded in death by his wife, Nan Tierney Walsh, in 1990.  Born in Scranton, he was the son of the late Thomas J. and Mary McGraw Walsh of the Nativity Section.  He was a graduate of The University Of Scranton and Georgetown Law School.  Tom had a long and established career as an attorney specializing in labor relations and civil litigation with the National Labor Relations Board and in private practice.  He was a navy veteran of World War ll.    He was well known for his expertise in baseball. 

He was a beloved father, grandfather and friend to many.  Tom had a dry wit, generous nature and tremendous committment to his family and friends.  We will cherish our memories of him.  Surviving are four daughters; Beth Abbott and husband Ray, Ridgewood, NJ., Ann Denette and husband Allen, Springfield, VA., Mary Pat Walsh, New York, NY., and Eileen Walsh-Minner and husband Ron, Springfield, VA. grandchildren; Dan, Torrey and Griffen Abbott, Nan Denette and Erin Minner, Nieces, Nephews and cousins.  He was also preceeded in death by three sister; Margaret, Alice and Mary Ruth Walsh.

Mildred Klein Byron died Friday morning, April 30, 2010, at Rose View Court, Williamsport, Pa. She celebrated her 90th Birthday on April 28. Preceeded in death by her husband, Robert L. Byron, Millie was born and raised in South Scranton. Daughter of the late John and Emma Werner Klein, Millie was a graduate of St. Mary Of The Assumption High School. Prior to moving to Williamsport she was a faithful parishioner of St. Mary's and was an active member of the Mother's Auxiliary and the Altar And Rosary Society. Her family was the center of her life and she will be dearly missed. She was a member of St. John Neumann Parish.

Surviving are three children; Richard Byron and wife Sandy, Texas City, TX., Barbara Williams and husband Rod, Williamsport, and Robert Byron and wife Donna, Scranton, a brother Robert Klein, Pocono Lake; seven grandchildren; Michael, Scott and Marissa Byron, Dave, Todd and Steve Williams, Jennifer Cerasaro; 10 greatgrandchildren; Devon, Landon, Nicholas, Jeremy, Christopher, Isabella, Katlyn, Sophia, Sarah and Brianna. His widow is the former Maureen McDonough and the couple was married for 28 years. Born in Scranton, he was the son of the late John and Elaine Bewick LoVallo. He was a member of St. John Neumann Parish. He was a graduate of Scranton Central High School and was formerly employed by the Scranton School District. He was employed by The City Of Scranton as a dispatcher and then in Traffic Maintainance Division and retired as Animal Control Officer. He was a member of IAM, Local 2462.

He was a loving husband, father, brother and friend who will be deeply missed. He was committed to his family and adored his children. He was involved with his children's activities, loved the New York Yankees, rock and roll music and loved dogs, especially his collies. Also surviving are four sons; Sean J., James, Patrick and Danny, a stepdaughter Erin LoVallo, all of Scranton,. four sisters; Maureen Noble, Eileen Hurchick and Colleen Pollock, all of Scranton and Kathleen Summa, Clarks Summit, and aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews. He was also preceeded in death by two brothers Frank and Barry LoVallo and a nephew John LoVallo.

Annette R. Lowry, 94,a resident of Elan Gardens, died peacefully Friday morning, April 23, 2010, at Green Ridge Health Care Center with her family by her side.  She was the widow of Joseph A. Lowry who died in 1995.  Born in Scranton, she was the daughter of the late Peter and Louise Vernau Andres.  She was raised in South Scranton and was active in St. Mary of The Assumption Parish and it's Altar and Rosary Society.  She was a graduate of St. Mary's High School.  She was a member of St. John Neumann Parish.    The ever-vibrant and sassy Mrs. Lowry refused to be slowed down by her years and remained active  shopping, walking and even playing volleyball with her friends in residence at Elan Gardens.  She had an appetite for books, lemon meringue pie, and the occasional glass of port.  In her younger days she could be found schooling opponents on the tennis court or laying down many a winning Pinochle hand.  Always the life of the party, she was an entertaining conversationalist who was never afraid to embellish a story. 

 

In  her late twenties she was swept off her feet by a handsome Army seargent named Joseph A. Lowry, and the rest was history.  They tied the knot a few years later, produced four very lucky children, and enjoyed a blissful 51 years of marriage before Mr. Lowry died in 1995.  The family takes great comfort in knowing Annette and Joe will finally be reunited.  Mrs. Lowry was a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother who showed great pride and support for the goals and accomplishments of her family.

Teresa A. Falzett, 83, a South Scranton resident, died Friday, April 23, 2010 in The Jewish Home.  She was preceeded in death by her husband Angelo Mario Falzett.  Born in Scranton, she was the daughter of the late Fred and Mary Morell Catanzaro.  She was a member of St. John Neumann Parish.  She formerly was employed by Proferra's Pizza and Mann, Levi and Nogi Insurance. 

She is survived by her adoring family; Sons Frank Falzett and Wife Brande, Tobyhanna and Paul Falzett and wife Ann, Scranton, a daughter Michelle Petry, Louisville, KY., a sister Joanna Benintende and husband Edward, Scranton and grandchildren Megan. Douglas, Christopher, Julie, Tiber and Skye and nieces and nephews.  She was also preceeded in death by a brother Fred Catanzaro and two  sisters Frances Roscoe and Helen Buntz. 

A Memorial Mass will be celebrated Friday, May 7, 2010 in Nativity Of Our Lord Church by Rev.   Wanda Chiavacci, 89, a resident of  Green Ridge Health Care Center, formerly of South Scranton, died Tuesday, April 20, 2010 in Mercy Hospice.  She was the widow of Gino Chiavacci. 
Born in Scranton, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Angelina Duni Mela.  She was a member of St. Paul Of  The Cross Parish.  She was a retired employee of Family Garment and was also employed in the local garment industry.  She was a member of the ILGWU.  She was a loving mother, grandmother and sister who will be deeply missed.  The family wishes to thank the staff of Green Ridge Health Care Center and Mercy Hospice for the care given to Wanda. 
Surviving are two sons; Richard Chivacci and wife Anita and Ronald  Chiavacci and wife Sharon, all of Scranton, grandchildren Ronald, Sheryl, Scott and Phillip and a greatgrandchild, Colton, a sister Diana Sarkis and nieces and nephews.  She was also preceeded in death by two brothers Miro and Nello Mela.

Mary T. McDonough, 93, a former South Scranton resident, a resident of St. Mary's Villa, died Monday, April 19,2010 at St Mary's Villa, Elmhurst.  She was the widow of Frank McDonough who died in 1996. 

Born in Scranton, she was the daughter of the late Dennis A. and Mary Cummings Brislin.  She was a member of St. John Neumann Parish.   She was a graduate of Scranton Technical High School.   She was formerly employed as an Assistant Buyer for a local retail store.   She was a loving wife, sister and aunt who will be greatly missed.  Surviving are nieces and nephews including Mary Paula McDonough, Rockville, MD., Rev. Joseph McDonough,Glen Burnie, MD., and Rev. Patrick McDonough, Hunington, West VA., grandnieces Sarah Christina Moran and Melissa Moran Sanoff, both of Rockville, MD. 

She was also preceeded in death by two brothers Dennis A. Brislin, Jr. and Gerard E. Brislin.

Mary Grace Cooke, 63, a Scranton resident, died Tuesday, April 13, 2010, in CMC, after being stricken ill at home.    Her husband is Edward Cooke and the couple was married for 34 years.  Born in Scranton, she was the daughter of Erylene Greene McDonough, Scranton and the late John McDonough l.  She was a graduate of Scranton Technical High School, Class of 1965.  She was a graduate of Empire School where she became a licensed cosmetologist.  After graduation she was employeed at Oppenheim's.  She was a member of Divine Mercy Church and it's societies.  She was a member of The Catholic Daughters. 

She liked to travel to Atlantic City and go on cruises.  Her hobbies were shopping and making and painting crafts.  Also surviving is a daughter Erylene Cooke and companion Anthony D'Avella, Scranton, a brother John McDonough ll, and wife Patrice, Scranton, two granddaughters Kalie and Chloe, a stepgrandson Christian, one aunt, cousins, and a nephew John McDonough lll.

Dana J. Reed, April 14, 2010.  Dana Jay Reed(Dan), 56, of Waymart, passed away at home Wednesday, April 14, 2010, after a brave and curageous battle with cancer.  His wife of 33 years is the former Kathy Scorzafava.  Born in Carbondale, he was the son of Shirley Walker Reed, Lake Ariel and the late Robert H. Reed. 

He grew up in South Canaan and was a graduate (1971) of Lake Consolidated High School and Penn State University(1976) where he recieved his degree in Secondary Education.  He taught English courses at Western Wayne High School for 33 years.  He was the Senior Project Advisor for many years, Department Chairperson, taught summer school, drove the bookmobile and instructed many homebound students who would not have graduated if not for his patience and help with school work. 

At Western Wayne he was loved by all.  Whenever his students hear the phrase "CARPE DIEM" they will remember their beloved Mr. Reed.  He left a great legacy as an educator,  He loved being a teacher and mentor to his students.  Many called him The Professor.  Dana was a member of Western Wayne Education Association, Penn State Education Association and the National Education Association.  Dana coached Little League and Teen League baseball for the Waymart Team.  He would go out of his way to help any child suceed better at school or sports. 

Dana will be remembered as a wonderful husband, adoring father and grandfather, a loving son and a great brother.  He will be remembered as a good friend to many and will be deeply missed by all who loved him.  He was surrounded by his family when he died.   

Dana was a lifelong Yankee and Penn State fan.  He never missed watching their games.  He was their #1 fan.  Dana loved hunting, fishing, bird watching, woodworking, taking care of his backyard pond, gardening, reading, cooking  on his grill, spending time with his family and travelling with his wife, Kathy.  Most of all he was a family man.  He loved spending time with his wife, son, daughter-in-law and he loved playing with and taking his grandchildren different places. 

Dana is also survived by his loving son Corey Vincent Reed and wife Elisha, two grandchildren ,his namesake, grandson Ashton Dana Reed and his beloved granddaughter Alivia (Livy) Gene Reed, all of Hummelstown, Pa..  Also surviving is a sister Deborah Swingle and husband Emil, Lake Ariel, a brother John Reed and wife Georgann, Waymart, a sister Donna Hnatko and husband Joe, Sevierville, TN., and his sister-in-law Sharon Katapski and husband Peter, Scott Twp.  He will be greatly missed by nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts, uncles friends and colleagues. Dana is also survived by his best buddy and companion, his dog Walter Wyatt 'Whitman" and his two cats Taz and Byron. 

The family would like to extend gratitude to all Dana's doctors and nurses at NROC, Dunmore and his family physician Dr. Frank Moro.  They would like to send a special thank you to Wayne County Hospice for their outstanding care, love, kindness and compassion given to Dana during his final days.  The support provided to him and his family was greatly appreciated and will be remembered always.  A big thank you to Western Wayne staff and students past and present for their love, the benefit they put on, visits, cards, notes, and prayers.  It meant so much to Dana and Kathy.  Thank you Pastor Mancini, Waymart, and Pastor Rushik, South Canaan for the visiting and praying with Dana and Kathy.

Henry J. Sheridan, 86, a resident of the Nativity Section of South Scranton, died Monday, April 5, 2010 in CMC.  Born in Scranton, he was the son of the late William J. and Anna Riley Sheridan. 

He was a member of Nativity Of Our Lord Church, now St. John Neumann Parish.  He was a member of Nativity School's first graduating class, was a graduate of Scranton Central High School and attended Lackawanna College.  Prior to retirement he was employed as a supervisor for 35 years with PPl Co. in the Scranton Division. 

In earlier years he formed Boy Scout Throop #43and had over 25 Eagle Scouts.  He was Past President of Nativity's Holy Name Society, Commander of The Catholic War Vets, was a 3rd Degree Knight Of Columbus and was member of PPL Retirement Club.  He was a Navy Air Veteran Of WWll and attended Perdue University.  He was one of the last surviving employees of the former Laurel Line Railroad. 

Surviving is a sister Joan O'Hara, Scranton and nieces and nephews.  He was also preceeded in death by a sister Ann Marie ( Nan) Spencer and two brothers James and Robert Sheridan.

Annette Carroll, 89, a former South Scranton resident, a resident of Allied Skilled Nursing Facility, died Saturday morning, April 3, 2010, at the facility. She was the widow of Vincent J. Carroll who died in 1993 and the couple was married for 56 years. Born in Scranton, she was the daughter of the late Matthew and Harriet Williams Jones. She was a member of Nativity Of Our Lord Church, now St. John Neumann Parish. She was employed at The University Of Scranton until her retirement in 1982.

Throught her life, Annette took great pleasure in spending time with her family, which was a source of tremendous pride in her heart. She especially enjoyed family parties, picnics, and dinners filled with joyful storytelling and the sound of loud laughter. She appreciated the simple pleasures in life, such as the joy she found in tending to her flower garden of poppies and marigolds and the peacefulness and tranquility of bird watching. She had a kind, loving and generous heart not only to those she knew, but to many strangers in need who crossed her path. Her sense of adventure and love of ice cream was evident by her desire to take long summer rides on unknown country roads with her family, which always ended in a purchase of a large CMP sundae.

Her mantra was " Life is uncertain, eat dessert first!" She loved rainy days, a good cup of tea, a comfy sweater, and the challenge of a crossword puzzle. She loved animals, especially her beloved cat, C.C., who would sit faithfully by her side for countless hours while she worked at her favorite hobby, making hand crafted greeting cards. She was a special and unique person who will be missed by all who knew her. The family would like to thank the staff of Allied SNF for the care given to Annette.

Surviving are five children; Judy Dorohovech, Vincent T. Carroll and wife Peggy, Thomas D. Carroll and wife Ann Marie, all of Scranton, Dr. Robert Carroll and wife Genette, Gainsville, FL. and John P. Carroll and wife Carolyn, Goldsboro, N.C., 13 grandchildren; Thomas, Gary, Matthew, John, Brian, Thomas, Richard, James and Robbie Carroll, Michael and Mark Buskovitz, Lisa Michaels and Joseph Dorohovech, also 6 greatgrandchildren and nieces and nephews.

Tobin (Toby) J. Townend, 27, a former Scranton resident, died Monday, March 29, 2010, in Henry County Medical Center, Paris, TN. 

Born in Scranton, he was the son of the late William and Sharon Pedley Townend lll.  He attended Scranton High School and was employed in the construction industry.  He was artistic and enjoyed dragracing.  He was a goodhearted and kind man and will be deeply missed. 

Surviving is a son Christian Esslinger, Throop and a daughter Wendy Townend, Tampa FL., a brother William Townend lV, Cape Coral, FL., four sisters; Julie Mattison and husband Gene, Stephanie Townend, Shannon Morales and husband Joseph, and Nicole Lewis and husband Aaron, all of Scranton, Maternal grandmother Ann Pedley, Scranton, and aunts, uncles and cousins, nieces and nephews. 

He was also preceeded in death by his maternal grandfather Carl Pedley and his paternal grandparents William and Darlene Dittfield Townend ll.

Grace Angeline, 90, a South Scranton resident, died Tuesday, March 23, 2010, at Mountan Rest Nursing Home.  She was the widow of Samuel Angeline who died in 1981.  Born in Scranton, she was the daughter of the late Casper and Jacqueline Pioppo Sciacchitano.  She was a member of St. Francis Of Assisi Church, now St. Paul Of The Cross Parish.  She was educated in Scranton public schools.  Prior to retirement, she was employed by Providence Pants Manufacturing Co., and was a member of the Amalgamated Clothing Workers Of America. 

Surviving are a sister, Anna  Bisciaio and husband Arnold, Scranton; nieces, nephews and cousins.  The family wishes to thank the physicians and staff of Mountain Rest Nursing Home for the compassionate care given to Grace.   She was also preceeded in death by two sisters; Mary Cortese and Evelyn Refice and a brother Paul and a nephew Robert Bisciaio who died in January.

Marcia A. Mascioni, 70, a lifelong Scranton resident, died Sunday evening, March 14, 2010, in Garden Spring Center, Willow Grove, Pa.  Born in Scranton, she was the daughter of the late Bruno and Alice Carrocci Mascioni.  She was a member of St. Paul Of The Cross Parish, St. Francis Of Assisi Church and it's Altar and Rosary Society.  She assisted with St. Francis religious education program and was a lifelong faithful member.

She was a graduate of Scranton Central High School and took courses at Marywood College.  She received her LPN license from St. Mary's School Of Nursing. As a young woman, Marcia tought 1st grade at St. Lucy's School in West Scranton.  She enjoyed swimming for many years and she was devoted to St. Anne.

Surviving is a sister Mary Ann Summers, Abington,Pa., two nieces; Mary Alice Howe and husband Dan and Peggy Ann Rice and husband Eric, two greatnieces Danielle and Sandy Howe and a greatnephew Mitchell Howe.  She was also preceeded in death by a sister Margaret Tobin.

Angela (Lena) Bartocci, Spring Hill, FL., a former Scranton resident, died Thursday, February 25, 2010 in HPH Hospice, Hudson, FL.  She was preceeded in death by her husband Neno(John) Bartocci.  Born March 21, 1919, in Scranton, she was the daughter of the late Frank and Grace Dorio Palmassani. 

She was a member of St. Theresa's Church and was an active member of it's Prayer Group.  She resided in Scranton for 26 years before marrying her husband and moving to Louisiana while her husband served in the Army Air Force. The couple then moved to the Chicago area where they lived for 25 years before moving to Florida where she was retired for 36 years.  She was a devout Catholic, she enjoyed being a homemaker and especially loved cooking.

Surviving are three sons; Neno Bartocci and wife Elma, Spring Hill, FL., Frank Bartocci, Rochester, Minn., Mario Bartocci and wife Ann, Westmont, IL., two daughters; Diane Evereth and husband John, Ocala, FL. and Grace Bartocci, Ocala, FL..  Also survivng are 9 grandchildren, 6 greatgrandchildren and a sister Josephine Cascio and husband Joseph, Scranton and a brother Michael Palmassani, Endicott, NY. and nieces and nephews.She was also preceeded in death by brothers Rev. Anthony Palmassani, Martin, Thomas,and Santo Palmassani and sisters Anna Palmassani, Mary Ann Palmassani and  Esther Pricci.

Ralph K. Yantorn, 94, a resident of Holy Family Residence, formerly of South Scranton, died Thursday, February 25, 2010 in VNA Hospice at CMC.  His wife, the former Dora Collini, died in 1997 and the couple was married for 58 years.  Born in Dunmore, he was the son of the late Angelo (Jimmy) and Rose Fellis Yantorn.  He was a member of the former St. Mary Of The Assumption Church, it's Holy Name Society and sang in the choir for 58 years. He was a retired manager of the PA. State Liquor Store.  He was a Navy Veteran of World War ll and was a former member of the Navy Reserves. 

He was a member of American Legion Post 948 and was a lifetime member of  VFW Post 1601.  Ralph was a longtime valued employee of the Haas Funeral Home for many years.  Even with his inability to communicate he retained his sense of humor.  He was a very loving, patient and supportive father who will be greatly missed.

Edwin R. Cardoni, a South Scranton resident, died Friday, February 12, 2010, in Mercy Hospice.  His wife is the former Dolores Parroccini and the couple was maried for 61 years. 

Born in Scranton, August 5, 1926,  he was the son of the late Anthony and Tillie Andreoli Cardoni.  He was a graduate of Scranton Technical High School, The University Of Scranton and received his Graduate Degree from Union College, Schenectady, NY.  He was employed as a teacher with the Scranton School District for 40 years.  He dedicated his entire teaching career at West Scranton High School and also ran the school's Audio/Visual Department, as well as serving as the  school's Golf Coach. He also aided in developing and instructing students under the Directed Attention Reading Program.  He enjoyed his pastimes of golf, bowling and fishing and received a great deal of satisfaction in caring for his garden.  He was a member of the Dante Literary Society, having served on it's Board Of Directors and was recently honored as a lifetime member.  He was a lifelong member of St. Francis Of Assisi Church, now St. Paul Of The Cross Parish.  He was a lector for over 35 years and served on the Parish Pastoral Council.  He also served as a committeeman for Boy Scout Troop 20 and interviewed scouts for Merit Badge consideration.  He was a Navy Veteran of World War ll, serving in the Pacific Theatre.  Edwin was honorably discharged in 1946. 

  The family would like to extend their appreciation for the care provided to Edwin during his illness by Drs. Oscar Pizcon, Jila Otarod and John Kutz, their staff and the staff of Mercy Hospital Special Care Unit and Allied Skilled Nursing Facility and the staff of Old Forge Davita Dialysis Unit.   Also surviving are two sons; Richard Cardini and wife Carol, Sterling, MA., and Mark Cardoni, with whom he resided, a sister Inez Mellow, Jacksonville, FL., an Aunt, Ethel Lemoncelli, Eynon, and many nieces, nephews and cousins. 

He was also preceeded in death by a son John Cardoni.  

The funeral will be Monday at 9:30 AM from the August J. Haas Funeral Home, Inc., 202 Pittston Ave. with Mass at 10 AM in St. Francis Of Assis Church to be concelebrated by Rev. Scott Sterowski, Pastor, Msgr. Philip A. Gray and Rev. David Cappelloni.  Interment Italian-American Cemetery, Minooka Section.  Friend may call Sunday from 4 to 8 PM.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Paul Of The Cross Parish, 1217 Prospect Ave., 18505 or to Josolin Diabetic Center, 1 Joslin Place, Boston, MA. 02215.

Joseph E. Reichle, 89, a  lifelong Scranton resident, died Tuesday, February 2, 2010, at home after being stricken ill.  Born in Scranton, October 17, 1920, he was the son of the late Otto and Emma Parli Reichle.  He is survived by his wife of 55 years, the former Claire Barrett.  He was educated in St. Mary Of The Assumption School and retired from Haddon Craftsmen after 43 years as a journeyman bookbinder.  He was a member of Holy Rosary Church, North Scranton.  He was an Army veteran of World War ll, serving in the European Theatre and was awarded the Purple Heart among several other awards.  He was a member of the American Legion, Veterans Of Foreign Wars, Disabled American Veterans and Veterans Of The Battle Of The Bulge.  He was an avid gardener and woodworker who was dearly loved by all his family. 

Also surviving are children; Robert Reichle and wife Jennifer, Joseph Reichle and wife Maggie, Gerard Reichle and wife Veronica, Maryellen Edwards, Paul Reichle and wife Joanne, John Reichle and wife Donna, and James Reichle and wife Donna, all of the Scranton area.  Also surviving are 12 grandchildren, sisters Laverne Shary and Charita Racy, both of CT., and Geraldeen Keen, Scranton, and nieces and nephews.  He was also preceeded in death by two brothers Wilford and Edwin and a sister Eleanor Reichle. 

The funeral will be Friday with Mass at 11 AM in Holy Rosary Church to be celebrated by Rev. Cyril Edwards, Pastor.  Interment St. Mary Of The Assumption Cemetery.  There will be no calling hours, all are invited to go directly to the church Friday morning.  In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to American Cancer Society, 712 S. Richard J. ( Dick ) Wrobleski, Sr. 89, a Scranton resident, died Tuesday morning, January 12, 2010, in VNA Hospice at CMC.  His wife is the former Christina Colangelo and the couple was married for 66 years.  Born in Scranton, he was the son of the late Stephen and Sarah Duggan Wrobleski.  He attended Scranton schools and was a retired employee  of the former Pa. Gas And Water Co..  An Army veteran of World War ll, he served his entire three year tour in the Eleventh Armored Division, "General George Patton's Thunderbolt's Division"  He was awarded the Combat Infantryman Badge, Good Conduct Medal, American Theatre Campaign Medal, European African MiddleEastern Campaign Medal with three Bronze Stars and World War ll Victory Medal.  He was awarded the Purple Heart for wounds received and the Bronze Star for bravery for carrying a wounded buddy out of the line of enemy fire.  He was a member of St. Lucy's Church.  He was a loving husband, father and grandfather who loved to cook.  The family wishes to thank VNA Hospice and Dr. John Diakiw and Dr. Karen Paczkowski for the care given to Richard.  Also surviving is a daughter Ann Slater and husband Leonard and a son Richard Wrobleski, Jr., Mt. Cobb, four grandchildren; Michael Slater, Anthony and  Angelo Wrobleski and Richard Wrobleski lll, two greatgrandchildren Jeremy and Nieka Wrobleski and nieces and nephews.  He was also preceeded in death by several sisters and brothers.  The funeral will be Friday at 10:30 AM from the August J. Haas Funeral Home, Inc., 202 Pittston Ave. with Mass at 11 AM in St. Lucy's Church to be concelebrated by Rev. Louis Grippi and Rev. Paul Wolenski.  Interment, private at the convenience of the family in Cathedral Cemetery.  All are invited to go directly to the Church Friday morning.  Friends may call Thursday at the funeral home from 5 to 8 PM.

Robert Bisciaio, 63, a South Scranton resident, died Friday evening at CMC after being stricken ill at home.  Born in Scranton, he was the son of Arnold and Anna Sciacchitano Bisciaio, with whom he resided.  Robert was a graduate of Central High School and The University Of Scranton.  He also attended Marywood University.  He was employed for 35 years, until his retirement, by the Scranton School District, teaching  Spanish and  being a Guidance Counselor.   He was a member of Phi Delta Kappa and PSEARS.   He was a member of Saint Paul Of The Cross Parish, St. Francis Of Assisi Church.   He was a loving son and brother who will be deeply missed.   The family wishes to thank the physicians and staff of the CMC for their compassionate and valient efforts to help Bob.  Surviving, in addition to his parents, is a sister, Marilynn  Bisciaio, Scranton, an aunt, Grace Angeline, Scranton and cousins.  The Funeral will be Tuesday at 9:30 AM from the August J. Haas Funeral Home, Inc., 202 Pittston Ave. with Mass at 10 AM in St. Francis Of Assisi Church to be celebrated by Msgr. Philip A. Gray.  Entombment Glenwood Mausoleum.
