Petrucci Jerry R. Petrucci, 70, a lifelong resident of the Bunker Hill region of Scranton, died Thursday, December 15, 2011, in his home. His wife is the former Tana Micciche Petrucci. Born in Scranton, he was the son of the late Salvatore and Rose Luongo Petrucci. He was a graduate of Scranton Technical High School, Class of 1960, and went on to furthur his education at Lackawanna Junior College. Jerry then embarked upon a thirty year career with Pendot. A big-hearted and compassionate person, Jerry was unconditionally devoted to his beautifull wife, Tana. His daughter, Shari, meant the world to him. His grandchildren, Briana and Tyler, will forever know they had the best Pop on the planet. Jerry loved his brother Albert and devoured the special foods his brother would bring him from his travels. He was proud of his niece Lisa, and nephews Sal and Jeff. If a measure of a person is the shadow they cast while alive, then Jerry's was gargantuan. He always had a laugh, a joke or a friendly "Hello" to his family, friends and even strangers he just met. He often referred to people as 'Cousin". During the 70's Jerry and Albert, along with their wives, Tana and Audrey, and their parents, Salvatore and "Ma" Rosie, operated Petrucci's Bar in the Petersburg Section of Scranton. There they first introduced Italian cooking to a then predominately German and English neighborhood. Jerry cared deeply about prevention of cruelty towards children and animals (especially Cats). He was passionate about film documentaries, sports, history and political trivia. Jerry unofficially held the arm wrestling championship of Northeast Pa. In this holiday season, Jerry certainly lived the motto"Peace and goodwill toward men". He will most certainly be missed but never forgotten. She was the widow of Arja T. Powell, to whom she was married for 50 years at the time of his death in 2001. Born June 14, 1922, to the late Loretta Greene Slocum, she was a graduate of Factoryville High School, Keystone Junior College and East Stroudsburg State College. As a member of the mathematics faculty at Waverly High School, Clarks Summit Abington High School, and the Abington Heights School District she took pride in remembering almost all of her former students. Adelle was a member of The National Society Colonial Dames XVll John Hand Chapter, Daughters Of The American Revolution, Scranton City Chapter, and the Pennsylvania Association Of School Retirees. She served as a trustee of the Waverly United Methodist Church where she was a member for 58 years. Adelle will be remembered as a loving wife, mother and grandmother; a devoted daughter, sister and aunt; and a caring cousin, friend and colleague. Adelle is survived by her daughter Lori Powell Allen and her husband Mark; her grandchildren, Timothy, Brittany and Kevin Allen; nieces, nephews, cousins and their families. Wayne C. Kleeman, Sr., Wayne C. Kleeman, Sr., a Scranton resident, formerly a resident of Roaring Brook Twp. for 40 years, died Wednesday, November 9, 2011, at home. He was the husband of the former Joan A. Moran and the couple would have celebrated their 55th anniversary on December 1. Born in West Scranton, he was the son of the late William G. and Anna J. Gerlach Kleeman. He attended Willard Elementary School and was a graduate of West Scranton Senior High School, Class of 1950. After graduation, he was employed by McDermott Paint Store and then Eureka Specialty Printing Co. He was drafted into the US Army during the Korean War. He completed basic training at Fort Knox, KY. He received a Driver's Award of the Third Armoured Division while there. He then shipped out to Germany where he spent the remainder of his service time. He was discharged as a Corporal and received the American Occupation Medal (Germany), The National Defense Service Medal and the Good Conduct Medal. He served with the Sixth Armoured Cavalry as a driver of all armoured vehicles while guarding the German-Czech border. He then resumed his employment at Eureka Specialty Printing which was later taken over by Litton Industries, Eureka Division, in Dunmore. Whe Litton Industries closed, he was then employed by Eureka Security Printing Co., Jessup, from where he retired. He was a 45 year member of Scranton Printing Pressman Union which merged to Graphic Communications Union, now merged with the Teamsters. He was a member of St. Matthew's Lutheran Church, Scranton, where he participated in the Welsh Cookie Bakes. Also surviving are four daughters; Judy Lee Kleeman, Gouldsboro, Joan Marie Bowen and husband David, Springbrook Twp., Gail Ann Kakareka, Madison Twp., Barbara Louise Dunda and husband Thomas A. Jr., Dunmore, two sons; Thomas George Kleeman, Moscow and David William Kleeman and wife Ann Marie, Taylor, a sister Lois E. Thomas, Scranton, a brother Karl K. She worked with her late husband in his business for many years. Mary's greatest joy was cooking and spending time with her family. She was employed for 33 years as a medical records librarian at CMC. She was a member of Beta Sigma Phi Sorority for over 50 years. After her retirement, she volunteered at Moses Taylor Hospital and the Senior Craft Center. She was a member of St. Patrick's Church. She enjoyed bingo, crocheting, making crafts and shuffelboard. She was a loving mother who will be deeply missed, she loved her grandchildren. October 31, 2011 Walter James Hoban. Jr., a former resident of Scranton, died Monday, October 31, 2011, in Atlanta, GA. He was predeceased by his wife of nearly 60 years, the late Joan Galligan Hoban, on July 8, 2011. Born in Scranton, he was the son of the late Walter and Margaret Gordon Hoban, Sr. Although they considered Connecticut their home, Walter and his family were well traveled including having lived in London, England, for 3 years. They moved to Newnan, GA., 10 years ago to be close to their daughter and grandchildren. Walter spent his life working mostly in the fashion industry as CEO and President of numerous, well known companies throughout North America and Europe. Never one to slow down, he spent his retirement years as the Director Of Sales and Marketing for Springhill Suites/Noble Corpration. A tall man, only Walter's heart and humour would surpass his height. A loyal Notre Dame fan, Walter would never miss a "fighting Irish" football game, even wearing green every Saturday during football season. Walter's free time was always spent with his family. Whether it was boating, travelling or even his Saturday morning walks on the beach with his daughter while she was growing up, Walter's true love was his family. His kindness as well as his wit will be remembered by all who knew him. He took enormous pleasure these last 19 years in spending time and 'play dates' with his 9 grandchildren. Born in Brooklyn, NY., he was the son of the late Richard and Mary Hall Tracy. He was a veteran of the US Army, and was employed for 11 years as the chief building engineer in Las Vegas for Ensamble Real Estate Services. He was a graduate of St. Ann's High School and Lackawanna County Votech School, The Henry Dende Center. While residing in Scranton, he was employed by Mechanical Plumbing and Heating. He was also employed as a HVAC engineer by Willard, Inc. and Wells Fargo Bank and 1st Security Bank. Also surviving are two children Lisa and Richard, two sisters Mary V. Born in Scranton, she was the daughter of the late John and Agnes Cooney McGee. She was a member of St. John Neumann Parish and was active in Nativity Church's community as a greeter, choir member, festival worker and bingo worker. She was a member of Nativity's former Altar and Rosary Society and was a performer in many of the shows it sponsored. She also was a member of South Catholic and Bishop Klonowski High School Parents Club. She formerly was employed by Suburban Casuals and CVS, she volunteered in many youth activities, was an avid fan of the Red Barons and she was the Honorary Parade Marshal for the 50th St. Patrick's Day Parade. Lillian E. Buscarini Lillian E. Buscarini, 97, a resident of Scranton, formerly of South Scranton, died Tuesday October 4, 2011, in Hospice Community Care, Dunmore. She was the widow of Herman Buscarini who died May 16, 1999. Born in Scranton, she was the daughter of the late Francis and Augusta Vallecorsa Refice. She was a member of St. Paul Of The Cross Parish and was a graduate of Scranton Public Schools. As a teenager, she was employed by Saquoit Silk Mill and after her marriage she was employed by Family Garment until her retirement. She was a devout Catholic and attended daily Mass and was active in her church and the Dante Literary Society both preparing and serving dinners. She enjoyed baking and giving away her homemade cookies and breads. She was also a member of The Young At Heart Club. Anna T. Parenti Anna T. Parenti, 91, a South Scranton resident, died Wednesday, September 28, 2011, at Mountain View Care Center, where she has been a resident for more than four years. Her husband of 48 years, John Parenti, died on October 1, 1994. Born in Scranton on January 20, 1920, daughter of the late Angelo and Maria Bisignani Tiberio, she was a 1938 graduate of Scranton Technical High School, and was a parishioner of St. Paul Of The Cross Parish. Prior to her marriage, she had been employed by Leventhal Dental Laboratories. Anna loved to prepare large family dinners, especially on Sundays, and to bake treasured family recipes, particularly for the holidays. During the summer months, she incorporated all the fresh produce and fruit from John's garden into her cooking, and during the winter months, she utilized all the jars of tomatoes and fruits and jellies that they had preserved together. Joseph M. Cascio Joseph Manuel Cascio, 91, a South Scranton resident, died Saturday, August 13, 2011, in VNA Hospice at the Community Medical Center. His wife of 66 years is the former Josephine Palmasani. He was the son of the late Pasquale and Carmela Fava Cascio. Joseph grew up in Minooka and was a graduate of Minooka High School. He was trained as a Quality Control Mechanical Inspector and worked for W L Maxon Corporation for 12 years and Anemostat Corporation for 27 years. He was a member of St. Paul Of The Cross Parish. As a young man, he loved deep sea fishing in the Atlantic Ocean, and built a small sailboat by hand with dreams to someday sail around the world. He built the home that he and Josephine raised their children in. He was an accomplished photographer, a passion that began at the age of ten. His love of geography and his fascination with remote islands inspired him to travel and build friendships through correspondence with people from all over the world. A few of those friendships lasted for most of his life and he had the great fulfillment to meet a few of his faraway friends in person. His travels took him to Europe, Hawaii, Fiji, Tahiti, Australia, New Zealand and many other islands in the South Pacific. He also loved traveling in the United States with his wife Josephine. He loved history, philosophy, physics and poetry. He valued education and instilled a love for learning in his children and grandchildren. He built a personal library that was a source of great pleasure for him and he was rarely seen without a book in his hand. His quest for knowledge remained until he died. He was a gentle, caring, wise and compassionate man. He will live on in the hearts of his family and friends who loved him dearly. Josephine McCabe Josephine McCabe, 92, of St. Marys Villa, Elmhurst, formerly of Scranton and The Bronx, died July 28. Born 1918 in New Durham, NJ, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Josephine Frei and was preceded in death by her beloved husband Robert McCabe. She was a graduate of St. Josephs School of Nursing, Carbondale. Her nursing career took her to hospitals in New York and Miami, through which numerous life-long friends, travels and lasting memories were gained. Over the past several decades she was devoted member of St. Mary of the Assumption (South Scranton) parish and choir and was a graduate of St. Marys elementary and high schools. Josie will long be remembered for her singing, dancing, piano playing and yodeling an ability owing to her Swiss heritage. Born in Scranton , she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Julie Beadle Galligan. She married her husband, Walter in July of 1952. Although they called Connecticut their home, Joan was well-traveled including having had lived for 3 years in London, England and has spent the last 10 years in Georgia. Joan was an accomplished artist and writer and had her own opinion column in the Shoreline Times newspaper in Connecticut. Despite all of her accomplishments, Joan considered her biggest to be her children and grandchildren. It is said that everyone should have one great passion in life, and Joans was her family. As Joan always said, the greatest gift you will ever learn is just to love and be loved in return. Her legacy of pure and complete love will live on in the laughter and love of those that she leaves behind. Loretta Walsh, 83, a resident of South Scranton, died Friday evening, June 3, 2011, at home. She was the widow of the late Paul B. Walsh, Sr., who died in 2006. On Friday night, a brite and beautiful star was born in our heavenly skies above. Loretta died peacefully in the home that she cherished so very, very much. Sporer, 68, a resident of Moosic, died Friday morning, March 4, 2011, at Scranton Healthcare Center after a long illness. His wife of 45 years is the former Carol Titton. He was a member of Divine Mercy Parish and was a graduate of St. Mary Of The Assumption High School. He served for four years with the Army National Guard. Before retirement, Paul was an electrical contractor and a member of th I.B.E.W., local 81. Kathleen Marie Philbin Kathleen Marie Philbin, 55, a South Scranton resident, died Monday, February 21, 2011, at home. Born in Scranton, she was the daughter of the late Joseph E. and Mary Phelps Philbin. She was a graduate of St. John The Evangelist Grade School and South Scranton Central Catholic High School, class of 1973. She was formerly employed by The Scranton Times where she was Miss Fire Prevention and she also worked for several local medical billing agencies. She was currently employed at Penn Foster. She was a member of St. Paul Of The Cross Parish and was deeply invoved in parish events. She was a devout Catholic and was active in the diocese. She was an adult volunteer at CMC and was awarded an honor for over 3000 hours of service. She loved animals. She was a special wife, mother. grandmother, aunt and friend who loved spending time with her family and friends. She was famous for her spinach dishes.
